1. With winter closing in, it's worth remembering that #woodburners affect indoor #air as well as outdoor:
- Can triple PM levels inside the home;
- Can create short-term but intense exposure associated with refuelling;

2. Our study involved households across #Sheffield taking part for us to understand the real world pollution from "eco-certified" stoves over a period of 3 weeks each.
We installed #IoT AQ sensors inside & outside the house. We provided participants with a tablet and dashboard.
3. Led by @Jwheydon, we also tried to understand the social aspect of wood burning during the study, with a survey prior to the study followed by interviewing every household. This helped us understand two main things..

Today we are excited to launch #CollaborativeConversations

A brand new project to build a citywide approach to how we bring local people, voluntary and community organisations and decision-makers together in #Sheffield.
We believe we get better outcomes in #Sheffield when local people collaborate in decisions that affect their lives and create action that really matters.
With funding from @SheffCouncil, we will bring together expertise from local voluntary and community groups, and frontline statutory organisations on collaborative, and we will co-create a common approach for #Sheffield.

I've seen Eddie Izzard live many times, & loved every show. But I'm really not keen on *anyone* who knows fuck-all about #Sheffield or its people being parachuted in (Eddie did *one* year at Sheffield Uni in the early 1980s) - no matter which Party they represent.
Let's have a look at some proud Sheffielders who have made a significant contribution to Sheffield & its people, standing as candidates to be Sheffield Central's next MP.

First up, qualified teacher, solicitor & community activist, Abtisam Mohamed.

It’s been a whirlwind day here in Parliament. We have a new PM now the Queen has invited @trussliz to form a government. A cabinet reshuffle is taking place.

🧵 #SaveDSA #Doncasterisgreat 1/14
My job in Parliament is to promote Doncaster so I have made it my mission to get to know as many MPs as I can. So I’m confident that our City & @DSA_Airport is known to every Cabinet appointee.

🧵 #SaveDSA #Doncasterisgreat 2/14
This is particularly helpful in times of need. @DSA_Airport is in that category. I have written to our new PM on that front.

I have asked her to meet with or write to @olivercoppard to remind him he has devolved powers and he can and should use them to save DSA

#Sheffield's use of Trussell Trust food banks has increased by 295% since the #Covid19 pandemic began.

During the same period, the wealth of Britain's 171 billionaires - many of whom donate to the @Conservatives - increased by around £100 BILLION!🤬…
New figures released today reveal #Sheffield food banks in the Trussell Trust’s network provided a total of 104,349 parcels to people facing financial hardship across the city, from 1 April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2022.
The 295% increase compared to the same period in 2019/20 – before the pandemic – reveals that more & more people in #Sheffield are unable to afford the absolute essentials that we all need to eat, stay warm, dry & clean - & the #CostOfLivingCrisis is only just beginning to bite.

Dear @SheffieldStar readers, the transport team from @SheffCouncil plan to spend £20m upgrading the #Shalesmoor roundabout, they advertise it as being a major benefit for all & a business boost but as you'll see, it DOES NOT. The plan missed EVERY SINGLE aim that they set out.
The £20m is likely coming from central government but almost £1/2 million of funds from (cash strapped) Sheffielders was used to develop the idea @Ameyplc are designing & installing it likely causing YEARS of DISRUPTION. I set out to have a look at it all
EVERY aim set out has been missed. It does NOT improve the road layout; it just changes it. Does NOT provide priority for public transport; it makes it HARDER for people to use. Does NOT include more segregated active travel infrastructure;...

1/6 If @BorisJohnson thinks Downing Street is a tip, he should see the conditions that people are living in thanks to more than a decade of Tory austerity in #Sheffield.
2/6 Each and every day, I’m contacted by residents in social housing in conditions like this ⬇
3/6 I work closely with @SheffCouncil who work really hard to bring accommodation up to standard and to make it liveable, but years of Tory cuts have made it almost impossible.

1/12 Much has been reported in the media & commented on by the govt about GPs not offering appointments. I've had constituents contact me to say they've struggled.

So I've been visiting GPs and staff to see what's going on.
2/12 NHS staff worked under huge pressure over the last 18 months, helping us all cope during the pandemic. In fact, it wasn't too long ago that we were all applauding them.

Some GPs in #Sheffield never once closed their doors but all of them now have huge backlogs to deal with.
3/12 A lot of people stayed away from the doctor during the pandemic & as a result they're now turning up with a whole variety of problems that need treating.

People are a lot more ill than they were 18 months ago, and understandably they want to be treated.

1/ Thread on the endemic nature of sexual assault & harassment in our society.

It's taken me a few days to muster the courage to share my personal experiences, but I feel strongly that women's voices need too be heard.

Thank you for having me on the @ELRAgeSpeaks Radio Show @MervChangeAGEnt. You are a wonderful host.
If anyone is interested in listening to my dulcet tone 😂 you have come to the right place.
Other reasons to give it a listen:
1. It’s sexual health week, so it’s my annual reminder that many older adults are sexually active, enjoy a variety of sexual acts, take sexual risks, but can face structural and personal barriers to realising their sexual agency and expression #SHW20 #SHW2020
2. You get to hear my Barnsley accent 😱

My cancer story - 2019

This is tough for me but I want to explain what I went through, especially before I was even diagnosed with cancer, so that you don’t ignore the signs or allow anyone to fob you off.

Here goes....

*deep breath*

At the start of 2019 I started feeling very lethargic, I put this down to being anaemic . Had blood tests done & they confirmed that I was very low on iron & prescribed iron tablets.
They didn’t make a difference, I began to feel weaker & nauseous...
The smell of food made me feel like throwing up.
I then started getting sharp pains in my chest
It got so bad I thought I was having a heart attack
The ambulance came
My heart rate was at 150
It’s usually around 67 BPM

There’s been a surge in walking and cycling in the #pandemic. Government has promised extra billions. It’s what @TheGreenParty has campaigned for, for many years. So how is it looking in #Sheffield?

To set the scene … since the 1960s, Sheffield had been developed to encourage the private car. Politicians competed for the motorist’s vote.…
The £2 billion, 25-year #PFI contract with #Amey failed to enhance safe pedestrian crossings or walking routes, safe cycling facilities, safe dropped kerbs for wheelchair users, safe routes to school.

It was a contract to keep roads just as they had been 25 years previously.

Despite posts yesterday highlighting issues of people still visiting the #PeakDistrict despite government guidance, the message is still not getting through. @DerPolDroneUnit have been out at beauty spots across the county, and this footage was captured at #CurbarEdge last night.
Cars were parked in both the car park and on the hill up to it. A bags of stones that was at the entrance as a roadblock had been pulled to the side to allow cars to enter. Plenty of people were walking, many of which had parked up in cars before heading out for their walk.
Some number plates were coming back to keepers in #Sheffield, so we know that people are travelling to visit these areas. Daily exercise should be taken locally to your home. Under government guidance all travel is limited to essential travel only.
