To those tuned into the #trees around us, it is unthinkable to entertain the idea that trees lose value with age and that a fragile sapling replacing a veteran #streettree is equivalent to replacing a rusted lamppost with a shiny new one.
Much has happened in the last decade to make this mistake feel impossible to repeat anywhere in the UK. I’d love to think that the #TreeCharter has been a part of the change, though I feel the actions & words of the protestors in #Sheffield themselves are the biggest influence.

We don’t just need to invest in #socialcare - we need to rethink it from the grassroots up. It means combining respect for Disability (ie. Human) rights with creating the conditions for inclusive and supportive communities. In practice this means #neighbourhoods.
We saw with #COVID that communities could self-organise - but the most effective communities were also already organised, networked and their own grassroots architecture. e.g. see this @wearenewlocal blog:

At the time, Manor was the site of the country’s largest council house rebuilding scheme. Over 1600 homes would be demolished, but only 500 new ones built, fragmenting and dispersing the community to new homes across the city.
As bulldozers eat their way through chimneys & walls, director Peter Gordon provides us with a portrait of some remaining residents, creating a record of Manor as it really was. A TV show about strength & resilience and a community fighting to survive despite the broken promises.

2. Our study involved households across #Sheffield taking part for us to understand the real world pollution from "eco-certified" stoves over a period of 3 weeks each.
We installed #IoT AQ sensors inside & outside the house. We provided participants with a tablet and dashboard.

New figures released today reveal #Sheffield food banks in the Trussell Trust’s network provided a total of 104,349 parcels to people facing financial hardship across the city, from 1 April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2022.
The 295% increase compared to the same period in 2019/20 – before the pandemic – reveals that more & more people in #Sheffield are unable to afford the absolute essentials that we all need to eat, stay warm, dry & clean - & the #CostOfLivingCrisis is only just beginning to bite.

Dear @SheffieldStar readers, the transport team from @SheffCouncil plan to spend £20m upgrading the #Shalesmoor roundabout, they advertise it as being a major benefit for all & a business boost but as you'll see, it DOES NOT. The plan missed EVERY SINGLE aim that they set out.
The £20m is likely coming from central government but almost £1/2 million of funds from (cash strapped) Sheffielders was used to develop the idea shorturl.at/juAHS. @Ameyplc are designing & installing it likely causing YEARS of DISRUPTION. I set out to have a look at it all
