"The commitment in the LGBT Action Plan is not for an inquiry into the number of natal girls being referred to the Tavistock – a Government Inquiry in a formalised process with witnesses etc."
2/
"Rather, the commitment is to undertake research into the issues faced by natal girls who transition in their teenage years. The wording in the action plan is:"
3/
"‘We will improve our understanding of the impacts on children and adolescents of changing their gender. The Government Equalities Office will gather evidence on the issues faced by people assigned female at birth who transition in adolescence’."
4/
"This will be research conducted likely by GEO analysts – we are currently looking at setting out the parameters of this research, and considering the timing of this work."
5/
So not an independent inquiry, but part of the existing LGBT Action Plan to gather evidence, in research conducted by analysts within the GEO. We did not feel confident at the time that this evidence-gathering would be unbiased, or that the real issues would be addressed.
Given the position of the GEO at the time, we feared a survey, a la Stonewall, designed to capture the desired concerns: long waiting times, lack of trans awareness in schools, a hostile press, discrimination & 'minority stress' - ie the script all young people learn.
Not until July 2019 did we hear that research had begun. Although 'research' is perhaps too grand a word; reviewing evidence from other countries, referral rates were found to be similar in Finland, Canada & the Netherlands. Very easy evidence to find. gov.uk/government/new…
This announcement informed us that "A tender for the next stage of research will be released in the coming weeks. This will include a comprehensive international evidence review and analysis of referral data.
Alongside this clinicians and young service users will be interviewed."
In fact the tender never went out. The proposed research was not even mentioned in the minutes of the LGBT Advisory Panel meeting on July 19th. gov.uk/government/pub…
So Penny Mordaunt's claim that she set up an inquiry into the number of girls referred to gender identity services is, at best, disingenuous and misleading. Or, to put it bluntly, false. #AnyButPenny

We agree. Penny Mordaunt's support for self-ID was apparent in her Ministerial Foreword to the GRA consultation. Notice the framing and 'anchoring' bias - ie respondents are given the 'right' answer before filling in the consultation. #AnyButPenny assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/upl…
GRA reform is framed as stripping away the 'barriers that hold people back, to create equal opportunities.' Why is this necessary? Because 'Trans people continue to face significant barriers to full participation in public life.'
So 'This consultation seeks views on how the Government might make it easier for trans
people to achieve legal recognition.' Difficult to disagree with these aims, it's all wrapped up.

Important new paper by a physician and chair of the Scottish Council on Human Bioethics looking at the Keira Bell case and the issue of whether adolescents can give informed consent to treatment with puberty blockers. @ForWomenScot tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…
"The child who takes PBs, will almost certainly have life changing and irreversible physical side effects, which could be greatly regretted in the future."
"It is of concern that in Bell v Tavistock [2020] the defendants from GIDS, to the surprise of the court, could give no evidence of ever considering even one of the children referred to the clinic as Gillick incompetent."
One thing we are concerned about in schools is when 'diversity' stokes 'division.'
The teaching of political and ideological views as fact is not the place of schools. This is not education, it is indoctrination. #edutwitter

"Instructed to view their humanity through the distortive lens of “white supremacy,” California’s teen girls are seeking refuge in puberty blockers, testosterone injections, and double mastectomies"
Excellent analysis by @LeorSapir on Californian schools. city-journal.org/the-assault-on…
When schools get adolescents fired up about a social justice issue - particularly one they have already heard a one-sided account of online and in the media - it sets pupils up as either the goodies or the baddies. Righteous anger then justifies bullying. transgendertrend.com/transgender-id…
WPATH, against growing international consensus, recommends dropping age for cross-sex hormones to 14 and double mastectomy to 15.
WPATH is not an official health body, but publishes “standards of care” which the Tavistock follows. thetimes.co.uk/article/give-i…
WPATH standards of care v 8 is not published yet but is due out this year. Version 8 includes new chapters 'Assessment and Therapeutic Approaches of Non-Binary' and 'Applicability of the Standards of Care to Eunuchs.'
David Bell said: “This is a call upon clinicians to abandon their clinical responsibility to a child and to submit to an ideological agenda which is harmful to children. This group is making claims that have no evidential basis."
We have been reading the report 'Britons and Gender Identity', a very useful analysis of the British public’s attitudes to gender identity and trans equality from @Moreincommon_.
Our thoughts below.
Thread. moreincommon.org.uk/our-work/resea…
Overall, the British public is accepting, tolerant & fair. No 'anti trans' sentiment or 'hate' comes across, but people do have concerns about rights of other groups, especially in sports & medical transition of children - just like us & other groups campaigning on these issues.
There is no mention of the way in which those of us who raise these issues are vilified and debate has been shut down. Would the British public have more concerns if both sides of the debate had been presented openly rather than one side being represented as bigots?
