Artists, it’s time to STOP making #tiktoks 🧐

A thread on why #tiktok early adoption phase is over & why that means you should stop prioritizing it for your content🔑

(1) Early adoption phases of a platform or product typically present a unique opportunity for fast growth.

#TikTok was no different, the content creators who were on it early (2020) saw vitality hit with ease on the now infamous #FYP feed.

(2) As a result #TikTok became the fastest social media platform to reach a billion users😱

Short-form video content quickly became the norm and we saw competitors quickly rollout their version of the same product.

(3) Now 2 years later everyone including your grandmother is on tiktok with the hopes of that viral moment making them into an overnight sensation.

We believe that these viral moments are no longer organic on #tiktok BUT that doesn’t mean you’ve missed out just yet.

(4) If you take a look through #tiktokmusic top 10 songs weekly you’ll notice that the vast majority are major label signed artists.

#TikTok took control of the music pipeline & built out a revenue system on top of it.😒

(5) Additionally if you look closely you’ll see account that amassed 100k+ followers during that early adoption phase struggling to hit 5%+ of those followers on almost every video📉

So if you don’t have a massive budget for influencer marketing what can you do?

(6) Here’s where it gets crazy… You can actually stop making #tiktok content your top priority 🧐

If organic virality isn’t occurring then you’re probably just wasting your content & getting nowhere. BUT there is another option & it’s valuable 💸

(7) The first option is #Instagram reels which is currently offering a paid bonus to creators of $1300 for 11M views through august💰

A great example of Reels working for artists is @LangstonBristol who prioritized reels & grew over 30k followers in a year😳

Believe it or not #Youtube is still the largest video platform by far and it currently has algorithmic advantages you can take full advantage of if you do it right✅

(11) The biggest benefit to #youtubeshorts is that followers are actually no different than channel subscribers 🤯

That means every follower you gain from your content will automatically be funneled your next music video! That alone is extremely valuable to artists👀

(12) Tiktok has never had great results when trying to get your followers to follow you on other platforms. i.e. 250k followers on tiktok, 4K on ig, >10k monthly on Spotify.

YouTube however has always been one to lead your followers to other platforms📈

- learn the platform & make native content aka don’t just repost TikTok’s
- Consistency always
- engage with everyone on each video
- gain subs & plan to drop a music video
