A deep 🧵 on @moporobbie music: I will be taking a brief respite from what has been 6 months of focus on the #RussianInvasion & support for #Ukraine to announce some #MotionPotion stuff. Honestly feeling crappy since 🇺🇦 gets no breaks & very little to hear other than shelling.

2) The timing is awful since 50+ #Azovstal defenders, some of the modern world's most heroic warriors were murdered recently in order to cover up the fact that they had been abused & tortured by the #Russianterrorists. & here I sit, safe & sound in 🇺🇸 posting about music. 😰

3) Please be patient with me & know that this brief detour back to the person I have been for 25 years: a musician, DJ & event world professional, is in no way distracting me from the needs of the brave humans fighting for my freedom & way of life in Ukraine. My 💙 is with you.

4) & if its any consolation, we did manage to cash in those 25 years of experience to throw a 🇺🇦 benefit concert back in June for @MriyaAid.

But today's news will be purely about me. Sharing my own work, music, legacy & accomplishments.

Naturally I feel crappy about this.

5) For the hundreds of you who follow me because of that activism, or the #Mariupol poems, or my benefit work on behalf of 🇺🇦, it will surprise you to know that I do make my living in the concert biz & have been a touring DJ since 1995.

6) I have played thousands of shows, typically very deep dives into extremely nerdy & esoteric corners of music. Typically I like to take a crazy idea & turn it into a DJ set. Like a whole night of #Radiohead Remixes, or #JamesBrown, or #Metallica, or weirder stuff still.

7) This has not made me rich, nor famous. But it has given me immense personal musical satisfaction & a devoted, albeit small following. Thankfully, much of that following is 'nerds like me' & many of them book big events & festivals.

8) Thus I happen to be the only artist to play EVERY @Electric_Forest festival, every @BottleRockNapa & (the timely one) every @sfoutsidelands, where I will be performing this Sunday. & since the fine folks at #OutsideLands & @Heineken_US have shown me such unprecedented support,

9) it's only proper that I should fulfill my commitment as an artist & promote my performance at #OLF this Sunday at Noon. And since this is the thirteenth of said performances, I figured it would only be fitting to release recordings of some of the past performances as well.

10) So again today I have (finally) released FIVE of them from over the years. And they are a DEEP bunch. The lot are in this playlist on #soundcloud. soundcloud.com/mopo/sets/live…

11) They include a #DiscoRemix set from 2014. #RadioheadinRemix in 2016.#MetallicaTribute in 2017 #JanetvsMichael in 2018, and #SaturdaySoul from 2021. All are worth a listen and as a grouping do a decent job of telling the story of what Ive been trying to do as an artist.

12) I also vainly pray that maybe someone in Ukraine will listen to the #Soul mix & feel a measure of relief, or #Metallica & release some fury, or #Radiohead & have a good cry. I would hope they save #JanetvsMichaelJackson for victory day, but I wont be upset if they cheat.

13) The process of prepping all this music to drop had me revisit the entire archive of which I have HUNDREDS of recorded shows, many of which are even better than these. In the coming months I hope to release them all for your enjoyment.

14) This war, my family & children & approaching 50 has me thinking a lot about death, legacy & what we leave behind. I want everything I have ever made, written, or said available to anyone to whom it could do event the slightest good, especially my children.

15) And to that end, we have finally launched another motionpotion.com website to be the mothership of said legacy (however modest). A place where that musical & written archive can live even when the various Soundclouds & Bandcamps & even my living body disappear.

16) In the coming months I will be posting not just the music, but writings going back to the 1990's, hopefully including the post I made in support of @HillaryClinton before the 2016 primary that attracted the Russian hackers who killed my last website.

17) Oh right. You didn't know that. Yeah I made the case that Hillary would actively defend our nation against all threats foreign & domestic and within days my site was hacked & corrupted with such virulent malware that my web firm wouldn't even touch it. #hillarywasright!

18) So I guess its only fitting that I should relaunch that site as a place of music & fun, but hopefully also a place where I can share my feelings about the world we live in, & advocate for the justice & fairness I wish to see for all who live in it.

19) So what to make of this post? This person?

Walking a tightrope between the most serious issues that face our species, and the esoteric cathartic moments that make life worth living.

The dichotomy of existence.
Bacchus & Athena.
Henry & Falstaff.

20) It is on this tightrope I hope to struggle for what days I have left on this plane. To take sides and speak truth. And to make & share the art that I believe does the same.

We are here on earth to work AND play.
To make art AND progress.
To defend freedom AND enjoy it.
