people need to understand this cycle.

"productive" member of society pays taxes etc for 30 years. has an accident at work. Falls in a hallway, brain injury. Can't work. Goes on #odsp.

Treated like a money-grubbing criminal. Forced to jump through hoops. While slowly losing
home equity, savings, relationships, slowly disappearing until one day you get sick and fall behind and you are out of your home. You are now unhomed. You live outside. With a brain injury. Brutal irony: because you are now unhomed, you lose any housing allowance.
Unhomed, nearly broke with a head injury living in a tent in a park, in constant fear of harassment by police + aggressive drunk bros.

then the city sends goons to take your tent + clear you out.

you too can be dehumanized for no reason

Brief summary of the Minister's @CQualtro 's comments on the CDB in this back and forth with @BonitaZarrillo yesterday: 1. framework for this bill is the same as the one tabled last year 2. timing is ASAP but there are still many things to be worked out
including negotiations ensuring there will be no provincial clawbacks. 3. Consultations w the disabled community are ongoing.

4. Eligibility is being worked on b/c there is no federal list of PWD. Using provincial lists or the DTC list are both being considered. #doubleODSPNow

These are the scenes that break my heart. Yesterday this knapsack, full of life's essentials, was left under this tree. Today, no one has claimed it, it has been gone through through and half of it dumped out. What happened to this person? Where are they? 💔 #toronto
I worry so much about ppl making the transition from housing to homelessness. esp #pwd. it is one of the biggest shocks and most difficult things anyone will endure in life. there's no manual "so, now you're homeless!" there is little to no support.
you're making a difficult adjustment in every way but most importantly psychologically. community is most important at this time but when do you go? especially with the embarrassment and shame and sense of failure that can accompany. our egos can be cruellest at these moments.

Absolutely overwhelmed by requests for assistance atm. MAiD is changing the equation for so many. There are so many people in despair it feels like we are going to witness something truly horrific unfold if nothing is done. The federal government MUST pay attention.
Disabled ppl are the biggest minority group in this country. We are staring at *voluntary* eugenics. We are staring at mass voluntary death of disabled ppl around this country because they are unable to live. It is URGENT that @CQualtro @JustinTrudeau hold a summit

Why are there so few advocates in the general population?

Why are leaders and human rights activists not taking up this charge?

What YOU need to do is support this MOST IMPORTANT INITIATIVE in the country demanding that benefits double. the most vulnerable population in #canada is under siege by covid and poverty and NOW when ppl need us most ... we must act. How?
