Conversation between MP and CT re Print vs Online
MP is walking near CT scanner room w opened Medical Physics journal in his hand
CT: Hey doc, why do get printed issues of Medical Physics? U were once treasurer for @aapmHQ & know how much it costs to print & mail
1/
MP: Buddy, glad U asked, others may also have similar questions when they see wall of printed journals in my office
CT: Yes, U can get online versions & read
MP: Well, I do subscribe ‘TOC’ for journals I read, but I prefer to get printed versions, Let me tell U why?
2/
CT: Go ahead, I don’t have too much time, I see many patients are in the waiting room, eager to get scanned
MP: Ok, see this latest issue of #MedicalPhysics, the cover page attracted me & led me to check out the articles. I wouldn't have done w online versions.
3/
MP: I am an imaging physicist, however, when I thumbed through the article that belonged to the cover photo, I ended up reading portion of the articles & downloaded for my library - both are open access
CT: Well, you could have downloaded the same w online version too
MP: Come on buddy, being an imaging physicist would I have checked out articles on “FLASH therapy”, probably no. That’s the advantage of having printed copy, learn something new
CT: I see your point doc.
5/
MP: Similar why bookstores are still open, because people like to walk through stalls & randomly find books
CT: OK doc, I got it. It’s like buying a #CT scanner, people prefer a site visit rather deciding by reading my brochure. I got it, U don’t need to brag about Ur habits.
6/
MP: U got it. BTW, I was surprised reading an article that had surveyed college students, asking what they prefer, printed or online textbooks. Guess what they preferred most?
CT: Off course, online version – why carry all that weight. Y prefer print because you are an OG
7/
MP: Actually, majority of the students preferred “Printed” over “Online" Textbooks, because they are able to focus well w a print version, while online versions can take to all places (like a rabbit hole) and waste lot of time.
8/
MP: In survey, students liked to have access to online versions, but when preparing for exams, they preferred printed textbooks
CT: Now I got it doc, I used to wonder why U keep copies of my technical manuals in Ur office, even though it is available online. Good CTDay doc!
