If anyone is looking for FREE course materials for the Fall, I published three #openaccess books over the past year. They're atomized, so you can use individual chapters independently or the whole thing. Most are available in different formats. #aejmc22#AcademicTwitter (1/7)
The first is for my Introduction to Journalism class: books.rodrigozamith.com/the-american-j…. This intro-level book covers fundamental media theories, law and ethics, and basic journalism skills like coming up with story ideas, sourcing information, and quoting people. (2/7)
The second is for my Data-Driven Storytelling class: books.rodrigozamith.com/data-driven-st…. This book mixes a conceptual introduction to data journalism with technical tutorials involving R and #dataviz tools. It can also be used to introduce R in quant methods classes. #ddj (3/7)
The third is for my International Journalism class: books.rodrigozamith.com/the-internatio…. This book reuses the conceptual foundation from the first book but adds units on journalistic cultures as well as practices, issues, contexts more closely tied to international journalism. (4/7)
Again, all of these resources are free and can be modified to suit your needs. My goal is to lower costs/barriers to education, so have at it! If you find it useful (or find errors!), please let me know since I hope to publish second editions for 2023. (5/7)
These books were made possible through the support of @UMassLibraries and the work of far too many people (see the Acknowledgements). But special shout-out to @kelseynwhipple who contributed a ton for The American Journalism Handbook, and my students, who copy-edited. (6/7)
If you want the syllabi for those courses and related materials, I've also updated my website with some new links: rodrigozamith.com. Feel free to e-mail/DM me for activities and assignments, too. Sharing is caring! (7/7)
