In the '70s and 80's You didn't get a DX at all Unless you went to the hospital

DSM was still just a book hadn't been made into laws yet.

A lot of hospitals and doctors had their own diagnosis codes

For example I was in disability services in first and second grade but I didn't get a diagnosis till I was in a developmental ward for 8 months in third grade Even then I was there 6 months before they actually gave me the DX

You didn't have enough medical problems You didn't get DX because you didn't go the hospital. I had seizures.

A lot of kids back then were considered behavioral disorder went to behavioral boot camps or reformatory schools. I was so fortunate to go to the hospital.

I think that says enough that the hospital with restraints seclusion and shots was better than behavioral boot camps or reformatory schools.

Another thing about them too was electroshock. A lot of hospitals back then did ECT on kids till they acting right.

Although there's not all over the place in Illinois like they were before there's still one hospital in Illinois that's had an adolescent ECT program since the 1960s and it's still going

In the 1990s They face the discrimination suit because most of the kids that they were their brains We're gang members. They lost that discrimination suit

Instead of stopping frying black kids brains. They just started frying more white kids brains.

ECT programs are some of the most factory line in the nation
They are still doing adolescent to geriatrics and it's the same basic thing with everybody They're going to keep frying your brain till you calm down and act right

Although Your chances of going to Alton state as an autistic and getting your brain fried is almost nil

I've been there three times only once in developmental and I'll tell you The two times in psych we're having compared to developmental

They have people there from preschool to geriatric. A preschool where you be restrained and I believe I still have a head bangers room I'm not sure if they do.

Illinois treatment for autism now as compared to the 70s is all ABA or one of the nations if not the world's leaders in ABA.

ABS just torture especially exposure therapy because unlike the anxiety disorder autism dispensary processing and we never get used to it

I will never get used to loud environments in that 50 years old now I still have meltdowns from loud environments. People expect their kids to get used to those loud environments and they ain't going to happen so ABA is just torture.

In Illinois here if ABA doesn't make you act normal and mask everything then you're going the hospital. And you may be there a while. Anywhere from preschool on especially head bangers and self-injurious behavior
