1/We seem to be reaching the stage of the Covid debacle where all of the authoritarians are trying to memory hole all the awful things that they did. We need to make sure that we never forget. Remember when they arrested people for sitting in a park or going to the beach?
2/Remember when they salted/sanded ice rinks to prevent people from using them?torontosun.com/news/local-new…
3/Remember when they banned low-risk kids from school for months at a time and taped off play structures at parks?
4/Remember when people would get assaulted or arrested for not wearing masks outside at ski resorts?
5/Or at the graves of loved ones?
6/Remember that time Quebec instituted a curfew? Twice!
7/Remember when interprovincial travel was banned?
8/Remember capacity limits in your own home or even back yard!
9/Remember how all mom and pop stores had to close for weeks or months, but the big box stores could be packed with people? Sometimes they even blocked off "non-essential items".
10/Remember how in restaurants the virus could only get you if you were standing, but not while seated? California got it right though.

1/ Early thoughts on #DoffDay from Covid crazy central (urban #Ottawa). Drove past my child's former elementary school. Looked like about 85-90% masked walking to school and in the yard, though some of the staff were not wearing them. Interesting.
2/First trip to the grocery store. Out of around 10 customers in the store, I was the only one not wearing a mask. The maskers looked even more frightened and outraged than usual. I saw one woman sanitize her hands 3 times. Store staff were 50/50 masked and unmasked. Interesting.
3/Ottawa will remain heavily masked for the first week or two. Even those who want to take them off will find it intimidating at first. Seeing people not wearing them in greater and greater numbers will give people courage to finally let go. We need face ambassadors.

1/#WearAMask if you want. It's your personal choice, but stop trying to coerce/guilt people into keeping theirs on to "protect the vulnerable". It has been clear for quite some time in the real world data that masks do not interrupt community transmission in any meaningful way.

1/The public debate on the ethics of vax mandates has been somewhat convoluted. In the end, it all boils down to these 2 fundamental questions:
- Does the vax stop infection/transmission?
- Are the unvaxxed placing an undue burden on health care?🧵
2/The answer to question 1 is unequivocally no. Current new cases/100K in ON clearly show that the vaccinated are getting infected more than the unvaxxed.
3/The answer to question 2 is also no. We know that there is currently a log jam of patients waiting for LTC beds.

1/If there's one thing we know it's this: @spaikin is a card carrying Covidian. He allowed the nazi @garymasonglobe spin hateful yarns unabated, but just about took @rupasubramanya's head off when the well researched subject of poor risk/benefit for certain demographics came up.
2/That mRNA shots don't stop transmission is no longer up for debate, rendering all mandates unethical. Unvaxxed C19 patients occupy only 8% of total ON ICU beds (16% vaxxed), destroying @spaikin's virtue-signaling argument that that unvaxxed are "preventing cancer surgeries."
3/No acknowledgement from Steve on Canada's failure to recognize durable natural immunity from previous infection backed by a boat load of studies.

1/Ontarians are clearly being held hostage by powerful special interests. Unfortunately most Ontarians also have Stockholm syndrome, unable to stray from their tribal loyalties, no matter how unhinged their 'betters" have become. Several dangerous precedents have now been set.
2/Teachers unions want much smaller class sizes, expensive ventilation retrofits, C19 vaccine mandates for kids and forever N95 masks on staff and students. They also want @fordnation out of office. Until these demands are met, they will hold the public education system hostage.
3/Hospital admins want already obscene budgets increased exponentially. Even if demands are met, funds will go to the bloated bureaucracy, not to front lines where they're needed. Although occupancy has been lower during C19, they been afforded the power to shut down the province

1/Ontarians are done w/C19 restrictions. Why? They have sacrificed so much & have done everything asked of them to support the stated purpose of protecting hospital capacity. After 2 yrs, is it still reasonable to ask for more sacrifices? The answer is no

2/The response to C19 started w/"2 wks to flatten the curve" to give hospitals time to ramp up for an influx of C19 patients. @fordnation @celliottability & overpriced hospital administrators like @AnthonyDaleOHA @KevinSmithUHN had 2 yrs to adjust business models to cope w/C19...
