How do you know your donation is having a big impact?

One thing you can ask is how many DALYs your funding has averted.

But what does it mean to avert a DALY? 🧵
A DALY is a Disability-Adjusted Life Year.

It's basically how much healthy life a person will lose due to a health condition.

DALY is best explained through an example.
Ikeno is from Uganda.

She was born in 2000, when life expectancy for a woman in Uganda was 46 years.

We will look at 2 different life paths for Ikeno to understand DALY.

1) Ikeno lives a normal life for a rural Ugandan Woman
2) Ikeno gets a fistula
