1 - 44: We desperately need to keep the #HouseBlueIn22! If the GOP takes control you’ll have racist, anti-science lunatics like MTG, Matt Gaetz & Lauren Boebert in charge. DON'T LET THAT HAPPEN.
85 - 110: It's vitally important to ADD to our Senate majority! We need a few more Dem Senators willing to reform (or even eliminate) the filibuster to prevent a handful of wayward members from blocking the Democratic agenda. Donate today! #SenateBlueIn22secure.actblue.com/donate/senateb…
111 - 138: While control of the federal government is vital, we've also learned how much power GOVERNORS have when it comes to protecting reproductive rights and so much more.
139 - 157: Secretary of State has always been an important job, but the GOP's endless attempts to overturn the 2020 election and *especially* their aggressive moves to nullify U.S. democracy add a new urgency to making sure it's #SOSBlueIn22. Donate today! secure.actblue.com/donate/sosblue…
158 - 173: Besides helping decide whether democracy is saved, now that the SCOTUS has struck down Roe vs. Wade, state AGs across the country will play a critical role in the fate of women to control their own bodies.
182 - 225: ⚠️⚠️⚠️ STATE LEGISLATURES have the most control over the fate of U.S. democracy. We MUST flip control of as many state legislative chambers as possible!
275 - 305: NORTH CAROLINA: Again, the odds may be against us this year but there's still a chance at flipping at least one of the two legislative bodies.
319 - 349: OHIO has, sadly, turned red in recent years but Dems can still prevent a GOP supermajority, and improving down-ballot turnout can also help flip statewide seats. Donate today to help make #OHBlueIn22! secure.actblue.com/donate/ohblue22
350 - 398: MINNESOTA has a split-control legislature: Republicans control the state Senate while Democrats control the state House. Either one could flip this fall.
399 - 434: MISSOURI has also turned red in recent years but Dems can still prevent a GOP supermajority, and increasing down-ballot turnout could also increase statewide turnout & potentially give us a shot at another U.S. Senate seat! #MOBlueIn22secure.actblue.com/donate/moblue22
435 - 461: Like Nevada, Dems currently hold a trifecta in COLORADO, but the legislature is potentially at risk. Help make sure we keep #COBlueIn22 by donating today: secure.actblue.com/donate/coblue22
462 - 477: Again, NEW MEXICO has a Democratic trifecta but we need to make sure it stays that way! Help keep #NMBlueIn22 by donating to these races today: secure.actblue.com/donate/nmblue22
478 - 493: INDIANA is a pretty red state, but flipping some legislative seats blue could at least break the GOP supermajority (& better turnout can also help @RepMrvan retain his seat in #IN01). Donate today to make #INBlueIn22: secure.actblue.com/donate/inblue22
535 - 558: KANSAS: Flipping the state legislature likely isn't in the cards but preventing a GOP supermajority definitely is! Plus, boosting Dem turnout downballot also helps re-elect @GovLauraKelly! Donate today to make #KSBlueIn22: secure.actblue.com/donate/ksblue22
559 - 568: The MAINE House & Senate are under Dem control but both majorities are shaky. Thanks to Maine's public campaign finance laws, only a few candidates require outside funding, but these swing district Dems could use that help to keep #MEBlueIn22: secure.actblue.com/donate/meblue22
569 - 608: IOWA: Another state which has trended red recently, but we can help prevent a GOP supermajority! Plus, boosting Dem turnout down-ballot also helps @FrankenforIowa flip a U.S. Senate seat! Donate today to make #IABlueIn22: secure.actblue.com/donate/iablue22
609 - 639: FLORIDA: Again, Dems don't have much chance of flipping the Florida legislature blue anytime soon, but they CAN prevent a GOP supermajority while also helping boost turnout for Congressional, Senate & other statewide races! secure.actblue.com/donate/flblue22
640 - 670: MONTANA: Republicans have a supermajority in the House & are only 3 away from having one in the Senate. Dems can prevent this by flipping as many in each as possible. Donate today! #MTBlueIn22
671 - 682: TEXAS: The TX GOP has gerrymandered the hell out of the Lone Star State, but there are still some swing districts for the state legislature, and I've thrown in @texasdemocrats, @TexasHDC & TX Senate Dems as well. Donate today! #TXBlueIn22secure.actblue.com/donate/txblue22
683 - 698: WASHINGTON STATE: Democrats hold a trifecta in the Evergreen State, but we have to help keep it that way! Donate to these swing district state legislative candidates today to keep #WABlueIn22: secure.actblue.com/donate/wablue22
699 - 712: ALASKA: Democrats need to flip 6 House or 4 Senate seats to control the state legislature...but they also sometimes form a coalition with a few non-Dems as well. Help them make gains by donating to these races today: #AKBlueIn22secure.actblue.com/donate/akblue22
713 - 724: OREGON: Democrats currently control both chambers of the state legislature, but can't take either one for granted! Donate to these swing district candidates to make sure we keep #ORBlueIn22 today! secure.actblue.com/donate/orblue22
725 - 745: SOUTH DAKOTA: Yes, it's a deep red state but the state legislature still has a bunch of swing districts. Help @SoDakDems hold & flip as many as possible by donating to these races today! #SDBlueIn22secure.actblue.com/donate/sdbluei…
746 - 759: OOOOOKLAHOMA!
Democrats would need to flip 16 seats in the OK House or 8 in the OK Senate to even break the GOP supermajorities...but we have to start somewhere.
760 - 767: TENNESSEE is redder than red, but again, we gotta start somewhere. Donate to these Democratic candidates today to start turning #TNBlueIn22: secure.actblue.com/donate/tnbluei…
768 - 775: SOUTH CAROLINA may be a red state, but there's still hundreds of thousands of Democrats who need our help. Donate to these swing district state House candidates today! #SCBlueIn22secure.actblue.com/donate/scbluei…
776 - 783: NEBRASKA may be a red state but we can't abandon hundreds of thousands of Democrats there! Donate to these swing district candidates today (NE has a "nonpartisan" unicameral body, but these candidates are @NebraskaDems endorsed): #NEBlueIn22secure.actblue.com/donate/nebluei…
784 - 795: ARKANSAS: Yet another state where Dems are vastly outnumbered in the state legislature but where they have to at least start somewhere. Donate to these swing district Dems to help make #ARBlueIn22: secure.actblue.com/donate/arbluei…
796 - 809: NORTH DAKOTA: Yet another state where Dems are vastly outnumbered in the state legislature but where they have to at least start somewhere. Donate to these swing district Dems to help make #NDBlueIn22: secure.actblue.com/donate/ndbluei…
Just had an amusing conversation with a very confused treasurer for an Alaska state House candidate who couldn't figure out why their candidate received donations of $1.79, $1.79 and $3.58 from people living in California, Washington and Connecticut. secure.actblue.com/donate/akblue22
I think candidates for local races (state House, County Commissioner, etc) set up ActBlue accounts for their campaign websites without understanding that ActBlue allows ANY U.S. citizen living ANYWHERE to donate to them...or to create a slate page including their campaign.
There's a few exceptions--recently I discovered that Illinois passed a law just this year which prohibits out-of-state donations to state judicial candidates. As a result I had to remove 2 Illinois state supreme court candidates from this page: secure.actblue.com/donate/statesu…
See that "Moms for Liberty" shirt? Yeah, those are the Christofascists who've been screaming at school board meetings w/hateful bullshit about masks, vaccines, transgender kids & CRT.
Find out who they're supporting & vote accordingly.
To clarify: "Parental Rights" as used by "Moms for Liberty" is code for an far-right agenda...attacking "CRT" (which of course isn't taught in K-12 anyway) and "wokeness," attacking teaching sex education, and of course attacking COVID-19 mask mandates. mediamatters.org/critical-race-…
A woman named Katie MacFarland is the chair of the Oakland County, Michigan chapter of M4L.
Ironically, the #IRA extending the #AmRescuePlan's enhanced #ACA subsidies will actually SAVE the federal government a bit of money in *reduced* ACA subsidies...because it's leading to slightly lower unsubsidized 2023 premiums.
AFAICT, it should save ~$61 million in CA alone.
Yesterday Connecticut also issued their final 2023 rates, specifically stating an avg. 0.7 pt reduction from the initial request specifically thanks to the #IRA passing. That's another ~$7M saved. acasignups.net/22/09/07/conne…
As I noted on the show, the whole reason I started this "slate donation page" project is because some people just prefer donating directly to specific candidates as opposed to donating to the DCCC, DSCC, DLCC etc.
It doesn't mean those orgs are doing a bad job; it's just that people like knowing that their particular donation went to help these particular candidates. ActBlue makes it absurdly easy to throw together a bunch of them onto one page so back in 2020 I figured what the hell.
Who’s more irritating?
—Those demanding 100% of ALL student debt be forgiven for EVERYONE no matter what & they won’t vote for Dems if it doesn’t happen
—Those saying NO debt should be forgiven for ANYONE and they won’t vote for Dems because some of it is being forgiven
As I've said before: I have no particular position on the issue. I happened to pay off my (small) loan decades ago, but I don't mind others receiving help on theirs. At the same time, threatening not to vote when democracy itself is literally on the line is unacceptable.
Yesterday's announcement seems to hit a pretty good sweet spot to me--it wipes out all/most debt for those who need it the most while also making important reforms going forward to help prevent things from getting so out of whack again in the future.
