Some interesting facts about the SBI:
7.During the British era, these three banks were owned by private shareholders.
8.These presidency banks were granted authorization to create paper money under the terms of the Paper Currency Act of 1861.
9.These banks merged on January 27, 1921, and the new entity took the name Imperial Bank of India (IBI).
10.The Reserve Bank of India bought the Imperial Bank of India in 1955.
11.On April 30, 1955, RBI changed the name of the Imperial Bank of India to State Bank of India.
12.In 1959, SBI had eight affiliate banks. They are the State Bank of Bikaner, State Bank of Jaipur, State Bank of Hyderabad, State Bank of Indore, State Bank of Mysore, State Bank of Saurashtra, State Bank of Patiala, and State Bank of Travancore.
13.State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur (SBBJ) was created in 1963 by the merger of State Bank of Bikaner and State Bank of Jaipur.
14.State Bank of Saurashtra and SBI merged in 2008.
15.SBI and State Bank of Indore merged in 2010. Following that, there are a total of five SBI Associate Banks.
16.SBI serves over 45 crore customers through its vast network of over 22,000 branches, and 71,968 BC outlets.
17. SBI had 62617 ATMs/ADWMs as of the end of now.
18. Arundhati Bhattacharya is the first female to be named SBI's Chairperson (former).
19. The first bank to open a branch in China.
20. The ATM at Drass in the Jammu & Kashmir Kargil region was opened by this bank as the first ever.
