You see, even though their website was optimized, there was no proof anywhere on the web that their site existed. Citations will fix that.

A citation is any mention of your business. As a minimum requirement, you'd include your business Name, Address, and Phone Number (NAP).
Ideally, you'd also get a link pointing to your homepage.
These can be built across hundreds of free local directories.

For my client, I had 100+ citations built out at the start of August. These usually go live right away and get indexed pretty quick.
In just a couple of weeks, they started appearing in search for their main keyword in positions 60-80.

It's going to take a few months for their rankings to climb. Imagine if they did this back in February. They would be much higher in the SERPs and have the cash flow to take a lot more keywords.
We'll check back on these guys in about 5-6 months :)
