The aim of this ride is to raise awareness on Mental Welness and health; and the fact that suicide is not the solution to life's problems.
The theme of #WSPD2022 is “Creating hope through action.” It calls for collective action to address suicide prevention.
Meaning that all of us - family, friends, co-workers, community, educators, religious leaders, healthcare professionals, politicians & governments - have a crucial role to play and actually can take action to prevent suicides.
Generally we commemorate this day to raise awareness about suicide prevention worldwide. Specifically, we aim to promote stakeholder collaboration & self-empowerment to address self-harm and suicide through preventative action.
This can be achieved thro capacity building of healthcare providers & other relevant actors; positive & informative messaging aimed at the general population & at-risk groups such as young people; & facilitating open discussion on mental health at home, school, work, markets etc.
Suicides &suicide attempts have a ripple effect impacting not only individuals but families, communities & societies.Linked risk factors 4suicide (eg job/financial loss, trauma/abuse, mental &substance use disorders, &barriers 2accessing healthcare, are further amplified by COVID
@WHO estimates 703,000 pple a year take their life globally. For every suicide, there are likely 20 other pple making a suicide attempt & many more have serious thoughts of suicide. Millions of pple suffer intense grief or are otherwise profoundly impacted by suicidal behaviours.
Let us all join hands with @HospitalMathari@MOH_Kenya to save our brothers, sisters, fathers & mothers out here. They're not alone. Be the beacon of light that saves a soul through action. #bethelight
