3/ Using the @NHSDigital Trusted Research Environment for England (bit.ly/3RfV5J7), which was established by @BHFDataScience, we analysed linked electronic health record data on 48 million adults in #England (nearly the whole population).
5/ During the follow up period (2020, before vaccination was available), there were 1,445,774 #COVID19 diagnoses, of which 125,789 led to hospitalisation
6/ We estimated post-#COVID19 #hazardratios for different #arterial and #venous thrombotic events, in successive time periods after diagnosis.
7/ The #arterial events were mainly #myocardialinfarction (heart attack) and ischaemic #stroke. The #venous events were mainly #deepveinthrombosis and #pulmonaryembolism. Very high hazard ratios immediately after #COVID19 declined rapidly...
9/ We grouped the outcomes into #arterial and #venous thrombotic events, and examined post-#COVID19 hazard ratios overall and in subgroups. #Arterial events below. Markedly higher hazard ratios after hospitalized #COVID19.
10/ #Venous events below. Markedly higher hazard ratios after hospitalized #COVID19, and these were still approximately 2 between 29 and 49 weeks after COVID-19.
11/ The estimated whole-population increase in risk of arterial thrombotic events was 2.5% by 49 weeks after #COVID19. The increase in risk of venous events was 0.6%. These correspond to 7200 and 3500 additional events respectively after 1.4 million #COVID19 diagnoses.
12/ These results support policies to prevent severe #COVID19 by means of #vaccines, early review after discharge, risk factor control, and use of secondary preventive agents in high-risk patients.
