"It has never been more important to dialogue on #WomeninMedicine. As I chair the @theNAMedicine section on wellness, women physicians are critical. Whether it is childcare, promotion, pay, etc. there are countless ways to do better."
"We respect all women in healthcare from patients to healthcare professionals. When we have any session on diversity, equity and inclusion, we must lean into our discomfort for growth to occur. We can have different viewpoints and both can be true."

Q: Why is the #InvestinHer campaign so important now?
A: @DrBrandyClarke: we are reaching a tipping point of critical need. For many years, we have done a good job for growth of women in the field. But it is not always equitable in leadership representation.
"We need to recognize and thank #WomeninMedicine who are doing so much and many are also balancing greater caregiving roles during the pandemic."
"2nd shift duties have piled up for women. That cost is in extra grants, leadership roles, & retention."
"Women only account for 18% of CEO's and 16% of deans in healthcare. That number is sliding in the pandemic. From the HR perspective, there is bias about working part time and resources are not keeping pace with real life demands."
"In surgery, there is a double standard for women. There is a pressure to be 'nice' and when they ask for instruments in the OR they can be seen as 'mean.' I learned to just tell people 'I am mean' and they laugh, but deal with it."
"The thing that holds us back is 'extra.' #WomeninMedicine often have to do 'extra' in the 2nd shift, in the department, etc. and that leaves them less time to do the important grant writing, leadership role, etc. that gets them promoted."
"The expectation to be pleasant all the time is a double standard. Every time that a woman raises her voice, there is judgment that is different than men."
"When there is pushback about a woman being in charge, it can be triggering. It can distract us. It goes against a culture of safety and respect and the value of interprofessional teams. We need to communicate directly & hold ourselves accountable."
