4am and I'm just sobbing for the family of the boy who was murdered in the Roxborough High School shooting Tuesday. There are shootings every day here--Philly has THE worst gun violence of all the top ten cities. But this shooting of these 5 football players felt shattering.

The boy who was killed went to Saul, the agricultural high school a couple miles away from Roxborough. So he loved animals. But he also loved football. Saul students get to play for Roxborough. Imagine this was all his dreams together in one freshman year. Now he's dead.

The Deputy Police Commissioner John Stanford said at the press conference that parents need to make their kids understand that this is final--death is final. I am sobbing for this city boy who loved farm animals and football who was chased down and shot in the chest. Tragic.

Some GOP folks told me earlier I was "truly sick" for "making this political." That's what the folks who protect guns over kids always say--it's never the right time to talk about our kids--and these are ALL our kids: Black, brown, white. And their lives are being cut short.

These kids are our future and we are letting them die every day in America. Half this country thinks guns are more important than children's lives and right now,at 4am as I imagine that mother keening from loss I am sobbing with her,for her child and ALL the kids being shot.

The Roxborough High School shooting wasn't more terrible than any other. But every time kids are just being kids,living their kid lives, like playing football after school, and they get shot, it's crushing. Or should be. If you're inured to these shootings, ask yourself why.

Guns are wrecking the childhoods of America's kids. The GOP is upset over men in drag reading books to kids in libraries rather than kids killing each other because there are so many guns. Examine your priorities--the thing harming our kids is the all-pervasive #gunviolence.

It's especially hypocritical and ironic for the party running on "law & order" to not only have a career criminal as the leader of that party,but to ignore/dismiss the toll of #gunviolence on America's kids. If you say you prioritize crime, then guns should be your priority.
