Learning something new?

Checkout 10 science-backed methods that you can keep in mind when you're learning something new.

👇🧵

#productivity #growth #learninig
1️⃣ Just start

Every task has a specific Activation Energy (AE), where you start a task by initiating specific actions.

Reducing the Activation Energy of new habits you want to form will make it is easier to get started.
Basically, prepare your shoes and weights the night before if you wish to work out.
2️⃣ Practice chunking

A memory chunk is a strong association in your mind that connects several pieces of knowledge.

Put your attention on the idea you want to form a piece of. Summarize the main points of the topic in writing.
3️⃣ Learn, Practice, Recall — Repeat

Creating pieces alone is insufficient. You must keep them up. The pieces will last longer if you take better care of them.

Recall the information rather than passively reading it while going over the material.
4️⃣ Take things easy

Take a pause whenever you are having a problem. Sleep. tidy up your space. Do everything but address the issue.

Your brain enters its "diffuse mode" as a result, which activates the items you've been paying attention to in the background.
5️⃣ Understand your procrastination

A procrastinator is someone who has the HABIT of being easily sidetracked.

By removing distractions, you can break this tendency.
The Cue-Routine is a different method, in which you pay attention to what you do in reaction to specific distracting cues and make sure to reject it.
6️⃣ Set an ending time for tasks

Work expands to take up the time necessary to complete it, according to Parkinson's second law.

Setting micro deadlines for daily chores forces your brain to keep track of the passing seconds.
7️⃣ Use metaphors and stories

You'll remember and understand things more readily if you use metaphors.

You pull an obvious memory trigger and analyse how it relates to the brand-new idea you are attempting to understand.
8️⃣ Use visual and spatial memories

Understanding topics is the most important step in successfully memorising them. The ability to visualise something is essential for understanding.
9️⃣ Intersection of skills

Transfer learning is the ability to take what you learn in one domain and apply it to a new skill.

Learn to apply old skills to new skills and vice versa.
🔟 Sleep well

Memory and recall are impaired by lack of sleep.

Your brain enters a more creative state while you sleep, helping you to come up with new ideas for your ongoing work.
That's a wrap!

Hence, I decided to write a thread on it for those who don't have time to watch the talk.
