I seem to always read/mistake WFH as WTF or WTH. Turns out I'm not alone in this and many others read it that way too, before getting it right seconds later. For something that we're all thrust into without much choice (not me - I have been WFH since April 2018, ever since I 1/4
2/4 quit full-time employment), this is an excellent context. What was once seen as a bad idea, then as a good-to-have perk, and then as an unproductive perk (among others), is now seen as the only way to continue work in many organizations. But it is also being used without Image
3/4 adequate thought or planning, as if simply asking people to work remotely is enough.
Pilita lays out the landscape very well, with GitLab as an example of how to get it right, and why companies should not just jump into it headlong.

People often ask me why and how did I get Abhiram to start A Thirsty Mind. I have two reasons.
Firstly, he has grown up seeing my #workfromhome. It simply meant all his life he has watched me, #interview people.
Sometimes it annoyed him, but of late it is fascinating him. “How cool amma, you earn money by asking people questions, even I want to do that!” I said, why not?
Secondly, while toying with the thought of encouraging him to ask questions to people, Vendanth started his #podcast.
It resolved the challenge of using a particular medium for Abhiram to conduct interviews. Presenting here, an interesting episode of Curious Vedanth, where he talks to B R Rajeev, a CG Supervisor. #PodcastRecommendations

In the next few posts, we will update the 5 important findings of our work from home survey.

A big thanks to all those who participated in the survey and provided us with great insights.
Finding #1

People liked working from home – 67% of the people found work from home as being efficient. They found it to be productive and comfortable.

#workfromhome #Sneedsurvey #Backtooffice #coworking
Finding #2

However, 65% respondents want to spend only part of the week working from home. Work from home is an alternative to working from the office and not its substitute.

.@IndyMayorJoe: Indy will further loosen #coronavirus restrictions next Friday, one week behind the rest of the state.
Worship services can host congregations at 75% capacity. That's different from state orders, which exempt houses of worship from 250-person cap on mass gatherings.
Masks will be required at the City-County Building. They'll be available at the front desk for those who don't have their own.

I know someone in the US who worked from home for almost 12 years. He was in the sales team and travelled a lot initially. As he rose, his travel went down. His firm did not have a dedicated office space for him and so they let him work from home.

#workfromhome #people #lunch
Slowly he was working 18 days from home and travelled utmost 2 days a week. He is one of the happiest and gregarious individuals I know. As such I thought he would find it tough to not have the social aspect of going to work/travel. I asked him how he handled that.
For starters, he said I sat down and listed the pros and cons of WFH versus going to the office. If I asked for one, I could have had an office space but that would be an irreversible path. Then I could never WFH as much as I could right now.

He made a few key decisions:

Really proud of our new paper! inet.ox.ac.uk/files/Pichler-…

We design a brand-new economic model to capture the complexity effects induced by the #COVID19 pandemic, and look for a sweet spot between economic boost and epidemic risk while reopening the economy.

A thread 👇 1/N
Rather than building yet another #SIR model, we use survey data collected by epidemiologists and simply estimate how different activities could affect R0 in the early stage of the epidemic. 2/N
Let’s start with our main result: if all non consumer-facing industries reopen, schools are open only for workers who need childcare, and everyone who can work from home continues to #WorkFromHome, we get a boost in economic output while keeping the epidemic under control. 3/N

Sometimes I wonder if I’m the only one making an effort to #StayHome. These are just a few of the photos of commuters heading to work this morning. Not much difference between now and before the #COVID19 pandemic. I really hope there is no second wave in #Thailand. Image
I’m lucky to have a job that I can #WorkFromHome. I do e-learning websites and social media for my local school. Since March, I’ve rarely left my home. Only for my weekly shopping & occasional visits to school. Then the last two Sundays I’ve been coming out for exercise #StayHome
Who is to blame that we still have overcrowding during rush hours? The companies that are not ready for the digital era and insist on their employees coming in? Or the government for not helping those who cannot afford to stay at home? Certainly not the fault of the workers.

Q: Are males more at risk from #COVIDー19 compared to females? Why?

A: Yes, Men are consistently over-represented among #COVID deaths. In hard hit #NewYorkCity for example, males make up 52% of confirmed cases, but 61% of #Covid_19 deaths.

More explanations in this thread
The most important reason why men are more likely to die from #COVID-related complications is likely sex-specific differences in #ImmuneSystem function, in which females typically have stronger immune responses at all ages.
For this #coronavirus and previous coronaviruses including SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV, males showed increased infection incidence and severity:

#Thread on mental health wrt to the corporate sector:
It's been 6 weeks since a lot of us have been working from home. I earlier found it to be a testament to the human spirit on how efficiently we all shifted from office to home. But I now feel there've been some missteps.
1/10
Of course, we need to recognise here that there was obviously no rule book/guide for what we suddenly faced as a world. And it was more survival mode and financial prudence that made companies (including my own startup) find a way to quickly adapt, so as to not stop working.
2/10
But as #workfromhome becomes the new normal, we must acknowledge how this isn't really 'work from home' (that a few companies practiced even in the past).. this is work from the middle of a once-in-a-lifetime global pandemic. We are working during and *in spite* of a crisis.

I know many hearts and minds across our country have been focused on the tragedy unfolding in Nova Scotia. We stand together with the people of that province in their time of grief.
This has also been a day when MPs returned to Parliament to debate and eventually decide on a mix of in-person and virtual sittings...
This is important because some of the most important next steps the government must take will be focused on the best timing and the best ways to get the Canadian economy going again, which, in turn, involves us resuming, if only partially, our lives pre-March

I’m not looking forward to my next electricity bill. Now that we all have to #WorkFromHome, the bill is going to be huge. I’m trying my best to limit when I turn on the air-con, but it’s not easy as it’s so hot. The measly 3% discount offered by the government won’t help much.
During the summer, most people take advantage of free air-conditioning at the malls, but they are all closed. And it’s not just the air-con and fans. It’s also the television and computers that we have on more often. Even the fridge is working overtime as it’s jammed packed.
