“Making money is easy. The hard part is keeping it” - Some Chad
Web3 is incredible. Lives have been changed. Teenagers have become millionaires. People have made 100x their investment trading shit coins. The list goes on.

We now have opportunities to make bank and secure our future that never existed before.
With this, money and valuable digital assets are now flowing through so many different and new mediums.
(cont)
This lends an opportunity to scammers to steal funds from the vulnerable and uneducated through a process known as social engineering
Social engineering is a manipulation technique that exploits human error to gain private information or valuable assets
(cont)
In cybercrime, these “human hacking” scams tend to lure unsuspecting users into exposing data, giving access to accounts or sending money to a malicious party.
Here are 10 basic precautions you can take to stay safe:
(cont)
👉 Avoid Sharing Very Personal Info
This is rule number 1 of how not to get scammed in everyday life not just Web3. No one needs to know everything about you. Bank details, address, credit card info and any other sensitive info… Keep it to yourself.
(cont)
👉 Avoid DMs from Randoms
Once you join twitter, discord, telegram etc. you will have a number of random people message you. Ignore these DMs as it is a huge red flag. Team members of projects will not DM you first.
(cont)
Many scammers will also try and imitate famous personalities by creating an account with an extremely similar username. Pay attention to this. The famous influencer you follow is NOT reaching out to you.
(cont)
👉 Be Cautious of Friend Requests
Just like the previous point, be cautious of people who reach out privately to make contact with you first. The majority of the time it is with a bad intention.
(cont)
👉 Don’t click on any unfamiliar links
Even my grandmother knows this one by now but it is important to include it. Don’t click any suspicious links. Verify domains and email addresses that contact you are legit. Phishing is real in Web2 and Web3!
(cont)
👉 Set Complicated Passwords for Each Account
Stop using your dogs name followed by 123 for your password! You know who you are. Instead, a mix of letters, symbols and numbers is best. Both upper and lower case for extra difficulty.
(cont)
👉 Set up 2FA
Password protection is key. For an extra layer of security enable 2 factor authentication. When logging in, you can receive 2fa codes through text message or an app like Google authenticator. Don’t be lazy and include this step for every account.
(cont)
👉 Never Share Passwords
Again, even my grandmother knows this one. Ignore any request for your password. Even the institutions you set the account up with will never ask for this info.
(cont)
👉 Protect Your Seed Phrase at all Costs
When setting up an on chain wallet you will be provided with a seed phrase (usually 12 random words). This is to recover your account if you forget your password.
(cont)
Write it down on paper, make a few different copies and find a safe hiding place. Do NOT take screenshots of your seed phrase or keep a digital copy on any device.
(cont)
👉 If Chatting with Support, Triple Verify it is Legit
Many scammers will imitate support desks from a similar domain and try to convince you to give up key info. Always verify you are chatting to real support agents.
(cont)
👉 Don’t Connect your Wallet to any Dapp Without Proper Research
When connecting to different decentralised apps on chain, always verify they are legit. Read what permissions they are requesting and if you are unsure, ask for help from someone with more experience.
