"Ravishing reviews" is what they say, right?

Unfortunately my reviewer @LentzGuy must have forgotten to link the article he was referring to, but I assume it's my most recent one, published today by @KluwerArb:

arbitrationblog.kluwerarbitration.com/2022/10/17/the…

But there are more out there 🧵 Image
@LentzGuy @KluwerArb Should the European Union Fix, Leave or Kill the @Energy_Charter Treaty? Published February 09, 2021 ccsi.columbia.edu/news/should-eu…
@LentzGuy @KluwerArb @Energy_Charter Investment Governance in Africa to Support Climate Resilience and Decarbonization, co-written with @uwase_brenda, highlighting the dangers of ECT expansion. Published December 10, 2021 ccsi.columbia.edu/news/investmen…
@LentzGuy @KluwerArb @Energy_Charter @uwase_brenda Climate Action Needs Investment Governance, Not Investment Protection and Arbitration, published March 15, 2022, which was the basis for a @CCSI_Columbia submission to the @OECD on #climate & #IIAs: ccsi.columbia.edu/news/climate-a…
@LentzGuy @KluwerArb @Energy_Charter @uwase_brenda @CCSI_Columbia @OECD Redesigning the Energy Charter Treaty
to Advance the Low-Carbon Transition, which I wrote with @NathalieBernasc during my time at @IISD_news @IISD_ELP. Published February 2019
iisd.org/system/files/p…
@LentzGuy @KluwerArb @Energy_Charter @uwase_brenda @CCSI_Columbia @OECD @NathalieBernasc @IISD_news @IISD_ELP Or maybe it was a blanket reference to all the work by @CCSI_Columbia on Investment Law, Trade Law, and #Climate Policy, which addresses the problematic @Energy_Charter treaty? #noECT ccsi.columbia.edu/content/climat…
@LentzGuy @KluwerArb @Energy_Charter @uwase_brenda @CCSI_Columbia @OECD @NathalieBernasc @IISD_news @IISD_ELP Or maybe it could be an even broader reference to the extensive work on investment law & policy by @CCSI_Columbia over the past decade, which has highlighted the costs and risks of #IIAs with #ISDS, including the @Energy_Charter Treaty #noECT: ccsi.columbia.edu/content/invest…
@LentzGuy @KluwerArb @Energy_Charter @uwase_brenda @CCSI_Columbia @OECD @NathalieBernasc @IISD_news @IISD_ELP We might never know for sure what @LentzGuy was referring to... and I cannot ask on Twitter, because he has blocked me. Image
@LentzGuy @KluwerArb @Energy_Charter @uwase_brenda @CCSI_Columbia @OECD @NathalieBernasc @IISD_news @IISD_ELP Assuming the article published today is the one he's referring to, for clarity: neither I nor @CCSI_Columbia have received or agreed to receive funding for this article. It is the product of my work as an associate researcher scholar at @ColumbiaLaw @Columbia.
@LentzGuy @KluwerArb @Energy_Charter @uwase_brenda @CCSI_Columbia @OECD @NathalieBernasc @IISD_news @IISD_ELP @ColumbiaLaw @Columbia Any curiosity about @CCSI_Columbia's funders can be satiated by a quick visit to our website. ccsi.columbia.edu/content/donors…. Spoiler alert: we are not funded by #BigOil.
@LentzGuy @KluwerArb @Energy_Charter @uwase_brenda @CCSI_Columbia @OECD @NathalieBernasc @IISD_news @IISD_ELP @ColumbiaLaw @Columbia Re the length of the piece: it was not easy to wordsmith it & shrink it down to 1500 words (@KluwerArb's requirement); there's so much to say about the botched reform of the @Energy_Charter Treaty. Academic pieces actually tend to be a bit longer than that, though. 🙈

"Members of the [@CIJ_ICJ] have come to the decision, last month, that they will not normally accept to participate in international arbitration. In particular, they will not participate in investor-State arbitration" #ISDS
After this clear announcement by the President of the @CIJ_ICJ in 2018, odd to see members of the Court being again appointed as arbitrators in high-paying #ISDS cases. Not what one would normally expect of full-time elected judges of the principal judicial organ of the @UN.
As of January 2019, the annual salary of an elected member of the @CIJ_ICJ (base salary + post adjustment, excluding benefits) was US$239,135 = US$655.16 per day (A/74/354, p. 31) undocs.org/A/74/354

1/6 Nobel laureate @JosephEStiglitz: Multinational companies will increasingly file massive cases against host countries when #ClimateChange policies affect their profits. #ISDS reform is needed to stop companies fighting climate rules. @SebastienMalo news.trust.org/item/201905290…
2/6 #ISDS cases can "instill fear of environmental regulations, #ClimateChange regulations because you know that it's going to be costly" for governments, @JosephEStiglitz said. "It's litigation terrorism." @IISD_ELP
3/6 @JosephEStiglitz: #UNCITRAL #ISDS reform process is a rare opportunity to end "pernicious litigation.” I’d add: the @Energy_Charter, which gives carbon-intensive energy investors access to #ISDS, must be aligned with the low-carbon transition. @ogeltdm transnational-dispute-management.com/article.asp?ke…
