📍 Product/UX design methods mindmap

1️⃣ Understand

In the understand phase, we put ourselves in the users’ shoes and understand their likes & dislikes, context, needs, pain points, etc.

Meanwhile, we learn about the business: What is the money-making model? What are the metrics to measure business success?
2️⃣ Define

In the Define phase, we work with the team, especially the product manager to discover problems and opportunities.

The ability to gather insights, synthesize data, and abstract input to a problem is very important.
3️⃣ Ideate

Come up with ideas that create a win-win situation for both users and the business. Involve the team, so everyone can contribute their own expertise.

Make sure ideas are planed and will land in the product eventually. Also, think about how to measure success.
4️⃣ Execute

This phase is about making and communicating.

Theoretical knowledge is the base, empathy for users is a must-have, and feedback from developers helps us succeed.

A thorough user flow and prototype are helpful to present concepts.
5️⃣ Validate

Make sure qualitative study is done at the beginning, so you have a solid ground to advocate for your users.

Don't forget to follow up after validation — what can you improve? What are the new opportunities? Do you need more validation?

Build products with focused value

There is so much software that tries to do so much for so many audiences, everyone tries to be a Swiss Army Knife of the industry. If you want your product to be simple you need to define a core value and identify who is this product really for. Image
Remove everything unnecessary

The simplest way to achieve simplicity is through thoughtful reduction. When in doubt, just remove. Secondary information, not frequently used controls, and distracting styles. Image

Text field types

Most of them are based on basic text fields that were modified to better handle specific types of information, like credit card numbers. Image
Use appropriate input type for data you collect

Providing the right type of text field for the requested data will help users enter information in the right format and avoid mistakes, making the process as easy and efficient as possible. Image

🔤 My top 10 free typefaces for UI design

Interfaces can quickly get cluttered 😮

An easy way to declutter them is by simplifying the thing that takes up the most space - text.

Here are my go-to sans serif typefaces for optimal legibility and simplicity.

0 / 10 👇 Image
Things I look for in a typeface:

✅ Sans serif, as they're generally the most legible, neutral, and simple. This makes them a safe option for UI design.

✅ Relatively tall lower case letters (x-height) and comfortable letter spacing for optimal legibility.
✅ Modern geometric style for a contemporary vibe.

✅ Constant stroke thickness (low contrast) for a clean and minimal feel.

💥 16 little UI design rules that make a big impact

UI design might appear to be a magical art form, but a lot of it is made up from logical rules or guidelines.

We’ll redesign an example interface using 16 of 100+ guidelines from my book - @PracticalUI

A mega thread👇
1. Use space to group related elements

The lack of space between content makes the design look cluttered and difficult to understand. Increasing spacing helps to clearly group content, making it more organised and easier to understand.
2. Be consistent

Similar elements should look and work in a similar way. This should be true both within your product and when compared with others.

This predictable functionality improves usability and reduces errors, as people don't need to keep learning how things work.

🚨 Launch alert 🚀

My UI design book @PracticalUI 📘 is live on @ProductHunt 🥳

I spent thousands of hours over 1.5 years crafting a book to teach anyone how to design user interfaces using logical rules.

I'd love your support and feedback. Thanks 🙏

@PracticalUi @ProductHunt Going up against all the AI app companies on Product Hunt is tough 😮

Here's how things are going after the first hour. Wish me luck and/or send me tips/advice 😅 Thanks
4 hours in and I've dropped to 7th position.

The AI tool in 1st position has over 400 upvotes already 🤯 Looks like their whole company is behind the launch.

Tough to compete as a company of 1 😅
