“Kids are suffering from COVID in ways we never expected” Nov 7, 2022

archive.ph/vQSYE

H/T @picardonhealth @FurnessColin
“There are those arguing that this spike is due to an “immunity deficit”–that children are getting sick now b/c they were deprived of infections during lockdowns & school closings…
…Let’s be clear: that theory is made-up nonsense, perpetuated by the same people who opposed #C19 mitigation measures…”
“What we are likely seeing, he says, is “immunity robbery,” where COVID infection stealthily hobbles the immune system, even in those who don’t suffer severe illness, like many children… ”
“In the process, the virus has also improved immune suppression, making children less able to fight off other illnesses. (There is long-standing evidence of this occurring with other viral infections, such as measles.)“
“The potential consequences of widespread immune suppression are frightening. It’s a reminder that the harms of SARS-CoV2 can be long-lasting, just as we’re seeing with long COVID.”
The solutions for airborne spread of airborne viruses are simple & effective:

Dear ON,

Stop waiting for those who are behaving the way they are with #IStandWithCUPE 😷 to tell you to put #Masks back on to prevent airborne spread of airborne viruses.

A non-exhaustive🧵 of their behaviour so far:

“increasing evidence that SARS-CoV-2 can cause immune dysregulation… a potential increase in acquired impaired immunity in the ON pop could have significant impact on the incidence & assoc burden of infectious diseases“

The day Iceland's women went on strike
By Kirstie Brewer
23 October 2015

bbc.com/news/magazine-…
“Forty years ago, the women of Iceland went on strike - they refused to work, cook and look after children for a day. It was a moment that changed the way women were seen in the country and helped put Iceland at the forefront of the fight for equality”
“When Ronald Reagan became the US President, one small boy in Iceland was outraged. "He can't be a president - he's a man!" he exclaimed to his mother when he saw the news on the television.”

🧵TPH “Wear a high quality, well-fitting mask, especially indoors... Masks are strongly recommended in indoor public settings, & especially if you are around people who are at higher risk/have a health condition.”

TPH masking recommendations are clear. There is no way of knowing for sure if children in your care are immunocompromised. Best health and safety equity practice is to assume so and act accordingly.

In the current absence of mask mandates, it falls to you as humans responsible for the health & safety of vulnerable & immunocompromised children to role-model & encourage clear TPH mask recommendations during this severe-risk period of infection:
