Justice For All Canada applauds @CanadaGeneva for raising concerns about #BJP state-sanctioned violence, hate speech, and the use of draconian laws against minorities in India, especially #Muslims.
But as a leader in promoting global protection of vulnerable groups, @CanadaGeneva has not exercised its full potential to advocate for religious minorities facing persecution in #India.
Concrete recommendations from @CanadaFP are needed to combat laws that threaten the citizenship of Indian Muslims, such as the Citizenship Amendment Act (#CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (#NRC).
The Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (#UAPA) should have also been described as a draconian law used to unlawfully target activists and journalists, resulting in their prolonged and arbitrary detention.
@CanadaGeneva also failed to raise the issue of Kashmir, an Indigenous territory experiencing high levels of arbitrary detention, police brutality, and ongoing settler-colonialism under Indian occupation.
We remain committed to combating hatemongering, extremism and crimes against humanity targeting India's minorities, particularly Muslims. Canadians call on @PMcanadien to hold Modi and his ruling BJP govt accountable for egregious violations of human rights & religious freedoms.
