Working in Brampton in the third wave of the pandemic is something I'll never forget. Everyone I saw was someone who was precariously employed, working in an essential job. - @AmitAryaMD
We're seeing the downstream impacts of public health policy failures in our emergency rooms.
Would paid sick days help parents?
It has to be said, this has been a tale of two pandemics. What I have seen is a fundamental disconnect. The message is "stay home if you're sick". But how can you tell people to stay home if there are real financial consequences. - @drandrewb
There's a real disconnect between public health communications and the actual reality of people who simply cannot afford to miss a shift.
There's economic, health, and ethical reasons to have paid sick leave, why don't we have them?
@drandrewb: I am tired of asking the public to make personal sacrifices when our public policies don't match. We have the money, we've chosen not to prioritize it.
.@AmitAryaMD It seems to be an ideology that's against equity, against protecting the health of community. Paid sick leave is a privilege and it shouldn't be.
This is the 28th time paid sick days will be debated at #QueensPark and potentially the 28th time @fordnation will reject it. #Bill4 goes to final discussion tomorrow and a vote at the end of the week. #ONPoli#PaidSickDaysSaveLives
@fordnation The whole theory of Leadnow is: there's real power in collective action. We saw it happen with the labour movement a couple weeks ago. - @DJDynamicNC
@AmitAryaMD: Solidarity is what it's about. Historically when we win on human rights issues were won through disruption - disruptive protests. We're not politicians at heart but we know these policies harm our patients and our communities. #ONPoli#PaidSickDaysSaveLives
@drandrewb We have people in the emergency department at Toronto general waiting for days in hallways. We cannot accept these outcomes. #ONPoli#PaidSickDaysSaveLives
.@AmitAryaMD The majority of the public supports paid sick days. People are on board with policies that can keep communities safe. It's a government that is anti-science and it's the only party that is against paid sick days. #ONPoli#PaidSickDaysSaveLives
Prioritizing corporate profit over people and the environment is in @fordnation’s playbook. The fight to #ProtectTheGreenbelt is at the intersection of climate and housing justice. Here’s why thousands are mobilizing to #StopBill23 👇 #HandsOffTheGreenbelt 1/8
Last month Doug Ford tabled a new law, #Bill23, to eviscerate our pristine Greenbelt, breaking his promise to leave it alone.
Bill 23 is dangerous. It’s an attack on the environment and democracy—all under the mask of expanding housing. #StopBill23#ONpoli 2/8
#Bill23 would allow Ford to take 7,400 acres of farmland and natural areas and strip environmental protections that protect wildlife, keep our drinking water safe, guard wetlands, and ensure flood protection. #StopBill23#ONpoli 3/8
For the last few months, the @liberal_party has been drafting a policy to cap emissions from oil & gas.
If done right, it could help Canada meet its climate targets and set a new standard for climate leadership. But Big Oil is working hard to water the policy down. (2/8)
The @leadnowca community won’t let our future be decided by the interests of polluters.
That’s why, since the beginning of November, volunteers have been meeting with their Liberal MPs to call for an #EmissionsCap that honours Canada’s climate commitments. (3/8)
The fact that @CUPEOntario education workers withholding labour was enough to shut down schools makes it clear: education workers are essential workers.
With #Bill28 repealed, workers retain their bargaining power, and negotiations can resume. It’s a big win. #onted#onpoli 2/6
Ford’s overreach brought together a massive coalition—public and private sector labour unions, climate and social justice activists, parents and students—in a broad and powerful movement. For the first time in a generation, a true general strike was on the table. #onted 3/6
