Distinguished friends & listeners of #navigatewithidy, how are you today? We trust you are keeping well & gearing up for the festive season.
On Tuesday,@IdyEnang continued with the conversation on #servantleadership. Here are the excerpts from the Tuesday edition.
Leadership is something that permeates every strata of society right from our homes to our communities, to our offices, to our places of work, to where we play and to whatever we do.
Vital characteristics and traits of a good leader are: 1. A leader listens – they are patient & they work at convincing their followers that they are on the right path which results is an empathy between those that they lead.
2. They demonstrate consistency in attitude & performance – their actions, responses are reasonably predictable but they never lose their cool & you will never find them in any case of emotional struggle
5. They believe it is imperative to be absolutely open – transparency. Their lives are there in the open constantly & consistently building total trust.
What are those traits & characteristics that you can say you have emulated from these men and women that have helped me and helping me to be a better person & better leader.
If you look through the entire spectrum of those that are leading you or aspiring to lead you, and they don’t have traits and characteristics that can help, build, form, or nurture you, then you are backing the wrong horse.
A leader without a strong capacity to motivate cannot inspire the followers, and if you aren’t inspired, the chances of being alive (being alive i.mplies being alive to your responsibilities...
...to that which you are expected to do, alive to harness the potential that God has placed in you). You need some leader or person of dignity to help you push that envelope.
2. An effective leader or manager must have a sense of confidence & enthusiasm: confidence is very key and if you don’t have a leader with confidence & a sense of enthusiasm around you...
3. If you want an effective leader, he/she has to be sensitive to others: Empathy is key. A Leader must feed the troops & care for their followers. When a leader does not feed the troops but takes away from them, that person isn't a leader #navigatewithidy#Leadership@IdyEnang
4. Intelligence & Knowledge:When you want to find an effective leader, that person must come with a measure of intelligence &knowledge. It's the perception of competence. There is nothing as great as having a leader who knows his/her onions #navigatewithidy#Leadership@IdyEnang
Intelligence & knowledge are solid elements that give you a sense of confidence. If you do not have an intelligent & knowledgeable leader, mediocrity becomes the order of the day.
5. One who is present at key moments: there is nothing like having a leader that is present, being available when the troops need you. This is the main rationale behind the concept of management by walking around (MWA).
However, it is not so important how often you walk around but that you have made it your business to be there when the going is rough for your people or team members.
7. A leader that is not timid or tentative: followers respect decisiveness in a business leader and unhesitating courage. When you as a leader decide to do something, do it.
9. Being perceived to be open: it is imperative you are who you present yourself to be. If you present yourself to be a person of integrity, be integrity personified. If you present yourself to be a thinker, be thinking-personified.
When you want to be a leader that will stand through the test of time, what will men say about you? What is your legacy? What will be written on your epitaph when you are dead?
10. Being effective in deciding without either being rash or tentative i.e. making decisions confidently & without arrogance. All it takes is you sitting within the ambits of Judgment, Drive & Influence (JDI).
A man who will put some analytical rigor is a leader, who will analyze the facts, be able to spot the differences, see through, build a frame around it, and then have a balanced judgment.
Leadership is upon each one of us. If you want to be the future you want to see, you must invest in yourself, in the people following you, starting from your home, starting from your sphere of influence...
...starting from that little corner you will dismiss easily, or even your school alumni associations. Let’s start fixing this country by fixing the mindsets.
Do not in any way take people or yourself for granted because there are certain things that are required. The main item is the power of accessibility. Be accessible to your children or the people you are guarding if you are a guardian.
If we want our country to succeed, each of us must be co-investors, we must have access to each other. Not access to do evil, but access to be able to infuse knowledge, intelligence, and capacity.
Dear friends & listeners of #navigatewithidy, we trust you are keeping well & ready to join us for today's conversation on 91.3FM @LagosTalks913. Before today's edition, here are some excerpts from last week Thursday's program.
Leadership is a baffling subject, one that people will always grope to understand its nature. It is one of the most observed and least understood phenomena.
Dear friends, we continued our conversation on servant-leadership yesterday while taking references from Robert Neuschel's book titled: "The Servant Leader: Unleashing the Power of Your People."
It was indeed an interesting episode & here are the excerpts.
You cannot live in the past. Great as the past might be, it isn't significant when you are looking at the present. It does not create a sense for the future because it is the NOW that creates the future
Friends, we trust you are keeping well & the week has started off on a great note. Last week Tuesday, we started an interesting topic titled "Servant Leadership."
This discuss was based on the wealth of Mr. @IdyEnang's experiences & also from a book by Robert P. Neuschel titled: The Servant Leader: Unleashing the Power of Your People.
Enjoy these excerpts & if you have questions, please send an email to contact@navigatewithidy.com
We started the program by look at what Mr. @IdyEnang termed the Neuschel’s nuggets: 1. It is not the lot of the leader to be served but rather it is his/her privilege to serve: this is a fundamental truth that most people fail to internalize.
You must be current in what is going on in your profession and you must be an annual contributor. Attend conferences, webinars and association meetings.
Competitive advantage is about how one business differentiates itself from another in such way that the target customer will show preference over that business.
Dear friends & listeners of #navigatewithidy, we trust you had a great time on yesterday's edition of the program with @IdyEnang & Mrs. Folasade Ambrose-Medebem as they shared their thoughts on Entrepreneurship 101.
Here are some excerpts from that insightful edition.
To succeed as an entrepreneur, you must have some enterprising characteristics. Entrepreneurs provide value, a service or a gap in the market to fulfill a need.
There are characteristics & traits that distinguish great entrepreneurs from others and some of these are:
a. Passion
b. Self-belief
c. Self-awareness
d. Grit
e. Ability to take some knocks & fail & the ability to bounce back
