To all who think the NDP can be reformed, whether BC or AB or even fed:

My former gas pipeline engineer is sending out warnings about new AB pipelines crossing BC: "Now Notley is starting up again about pipelines to tidewater. NDP still owned by O&G corps like before... #bcpoli
.."Of the three pipelines authorized for the North, Pacific Trail and Westcoast Connector are owned by Enbridge and the third, Prince Rupert Gas Transmission pipeline, is owned by TC Energy Corp., the company currently building #CoastalGasLink..."
"All three have their environmental assessment certificates, a blanket authorization allowing the pipelines to move forward...Those 3 approved lines across BC need to be reconsidered with an environmental "no" this time before AB decides they will serve AB. Eby can't wait..."
"I'm floored by the # of LNG projects proposed for BC, all needing large dia gas pipelines, fracking, tailings ponds (some radioactive), high pressure fracking & injection wells. Enviro damage from lg equip't across pristine ecosystems beyond repair (as we're seeing along CGL).."
.."The Vancouver Sun laid this out briefly asking Eby for his plans. Doubt if he has anywhere near what it takes to stop this madness and cost to BC taxpayers, only for company and investor profits, and none for BC...All this will only encourage Danielle Smith to push for more."
"Danielle Smith has her sights on Prince Rupert...check the TC line above to PR. Listening to her on CBCPnP on Friday, she appears determined that AB resources can be developed and shipped to market. Eby's call now, hope he gets it together and soon..."
Years ago, PNG (Pacific Northern Gas) built a small dia gas line (10"or16") across N. BC to supply Prince Rupert with domestic gas for heating &c. This was a wake up as to the difficulties of any construction across this area... (see also CGL's recent budget overruns)..."
..."[This was a wake up as to the difficulties of any construction across this area of Northern BC] together with a nightmare for repairs or servicing in the winter due to the weather and deep snow falls. Sometimes the line was just shut down until they could get to it..."
..."AB should just stick with existing exports into the US and not get any ideas of using BC." Thanks as always to this retired engineer, who hails from a saner era, & his counterparts who give so freely of their time. Here's that Vancouver Sun article: vancouversun.com/opinion/opinio…
PS "The Sun and Tyee got the ball rolling on the new pipeline issue but haven't mentioned Alberta... yet. But both Danielle Smith and Notley want ocean access for AB and don't care at all about BC's environment." Nor, for that matter, does the BC NDP, right @Dave_Eby? #bcpoli
@Dave_Eby .."The environmental certificates are so old for these pipelines that I doubt if the gov't had any idea of the damage that will be done. The damage from #Coastalgaslink should open their eyes enough to not allow these to go ahead..."
@Dave_Eby More inside info: "Al Monaco, Enbridge CEO, was on BNN last week before he retires. New CEO will be the guy that ran Spectre which Enbridge bought, and I seem to recall that Spectre was an owner of the Westcoast line from Ft St John south, so he knows BC quite well..."

A longtime #bcpoli watcher messages me just now:

"I don't remember the BC Libs ever trying to pull off what the NDP did today when they quietly released that report and announced that presser. BC Libs were brutal but even they would fear getting slaughtered by the media...
."...NDP announcing a presser with only an hour's notice, no time for media to read the report in question, which was announced immediately before, and no livestream just a teleconference, so no chance to get it on tonight's news. Amazing audacity..." #bcpoli
If you want to know what the presser was about (a faux "independent" report on BC's Covid mgmt which also revealed a majority of BCers weren't impressed with it), @brish_ti did an amazing job to cover this despite the very short notice

Enjoyable article by
@FailedArch's Kevin Rogan in @thebafflermag which deftly dismantles a neoliberal YIMBY piece by a Vancouver writer that @jacobin should never printed. (Why does Jacobin keep getting Canada wrong? Make different connections here, pls.) thebaffler.com/latest/dream-h…
@jacobin "That this piece appears in Jacobin, an ostensibly “socialist” publication, goes a long way towards burying its call for capital accumulation under the thinnest veneer of left politics at its most bleeding-heart chauvinist."
@jacobin "I can sum [the Jacobin article's] five points up with two: (1) capitalism can alone solve its own crises; & (2) it should be allowed to do so, regardless of how long it takes, before we even consider intervening in other ways."

Thanks to Rogan for making this absurdity so plain

I'm still in a state of horror that the @VancouverPD would evict so many people from their tents right before a stretch of extremely cold weather, & that they'd embark on this the very day of a major snowstorm. Also, where is media? #bcstorm. #vanpoli #bcpoli #Vancouver
I hope everyone who voted for these ABC ghouls - despite warnings that they were backed by Chip Wilson & were Dickensian - feels some remorse now. They've been in power a month & we have cops back in schools, corruption with one of their School Trustees, & now this.
For those voters who really believed Ken Sim was a centrist, despite who his backers are: Jason Kenney is also now styling himself as a centrist. And if you believe that, I have a bridge &c. globalnews.ca/news/9313538/j…

Just heard that at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, Covid cases just doubled overnight - and that's before all the test results are in. They expect it to go higher.

We now also have immune-escaping variants rising exponentially in N. America. Where is the mask mandate? #bcpoli
The govt has misplaced the mask mandate somewhere in a closet, right next to a rational policy response to climate change
Meanwhile at a Nanaimo LTC apparently more residents now have Covid than don't, and so many staff are out sick that HCWs who are still standing are having to work far too many shifts.

To belabour the obvious, the BC govt is refusing to protect us or our health system.

I know civic elections are only just over but: if you're an Anjali follower, what is your next step when she's disqualified this week?

Elizabeth Cull presents her findings on the NDP membership investigation on Wednesday. The party brass know the contents of the report.. #bcpoli
We all know this disqualification is coming. Dave Eby isn't even bothering to campaign for leadership, and his website has the look of a placeholder he paid about $199 for.
So what happens next?

It's critical those who felt full of hope & signed up for memberships under Anjali not be cut loose with nowhere to go - & not become cynical & disaffected with politics entirely. Esp youth. This was always the unaddressed risk of this 'strategy'...
