On Friday morning, the 21st of October 1966, a wave of coal waste slid down the Aberfan Valley, taking the lives of 116 children and 28 adults with it.

At approximately 9.15 am, the coal waste hit Pantglas Junior School and destroyed several houses nearby.
In less than five minutes 116 children and 28 adults were killed - the majority within the primary school walls.
