Dear Westjetters, I join you in the frustration of being sidelined by @WestJet led by the failed leadership of @AHoensbroech and will proactively use my cancelled time not to grieve missing Christmas, but to analyze data on their failures to deliver while other airlines could. 🧵

2/ Today is a good day to analyze incoming data about flights because @WestJet "proactively cancelled" them due to #ONStorm. globalnews.ca/news/9369443/w…

3/ I'm more convinced it was because of resource management failure & I'll track flights coming out of #YYC (their hub) to these destinations to see it in comparison to other airlines like @AirCanada @FlairAirlines @Lynx_Air and @SunwingVacay. Something you should do too @CTA_gc

4/ According to @ConsumerSOS, this morning @TorontoPearson T3, other carriers managed to get off the ground. Surely, it must also be capable of handling incoming flights.

5/ There were a total of 4 flights heading to Toronto on the early morning hours of Dec 23. WS652, Y9109, AC158 and WS980. All made it out and arrived with WS652 being the only cancelled flight in that group. Definitely not weather related, everyone else arrived in the AM, A-OK.

6/ Next group: WS656 for 930am is cancelled, but @FlairAirlines F8822 departs while AC136 is delayed until 5:04pm. Keep an eye out for AC138 to depart soon. Would love to see another YYC-YYZ bound plane land during #ONStorm while @WestJet sits with backlogged cancellations.

7/ Adding to this reasoning of why @WestJet may want to "proactively cancel" flights ahead of #ONStorm... well it makes sense from an AARP perspective so they will not have to compensate passengers for something outside of their control. I don't buy that and we'll prove it here.

@WestJet 8/ Other notable landings today at #YYZ due to #ONStorm: AC2126 from Vancouver #YVR at 12:17pm, AC256 from #YWG at 9:04am, AC443 from #YOW at 9:57am and AC403 from #YUL at 10:38am. Doesn't feel like much of a storm does it #Westjet?

9/ I proactively booked myself on @AirCanada while @WestJet figures out where their customer service reps went. Slight delay due to weather, but at least AC150 is trying to get itself off the ground. Extra seats left that should've been filled with backlogged Westjetters.

10/ AC136 is currently on downwind final towards #YYZ from #YYC. Another plane that has made it to Toronto successfully today. @ConsumerSOS @GlobalNational @GlobalCalgary @globalnewsto @CTA_gc everybody cancelled today should be covered under AARP. @WestJet needs to admit fault.

11/ AC138 is about 75% complete its journey from YYC-YYZ. @WestJet completed a total of 0 flights to YYZ today while having huge backlogs of disconnected passengers. @ChristaDao, all the data you need is publicly visible to show how #ONStorm had little to no factor in WJ failure.

12/ Sorry I stand corrected, only 3 @WestJet flights made it from YYC-YYZ so far. 1 @Lynx_Air, 1 @FlairAirlines, 5 from @AirCanada with at least 1 more coming.

13/ Another notable landing right now to #YYZ is AC264 from Winnipeg. AC168 from #YEG also landed recently. So nice of @WestJet to give @AirCanada all the airspace it needs to perform its duties and actually get passengers to their families *before Christmas*.

14/ AC146 just departed #YYC for #YYZ during #ONStorm. Keeping an eye on this one closely because right now the storm is actually impacting hard, but @AirCanada feels safe enough to push flights in that direction. @WestJet still grounded. No communications from them about much.

15/ AC138 about to land in #YYZ during #ONStorm full of passengers who will make it to their families in the GTA for Christmas. While stranded #Westjet passengers are waiting to hear back about rebookings after Christmas festivities have passed.

16/ For those in the #Vancouver #YVR camp who want to get to Toronto, can currently confirm 2 of the 3 live flights here are on their way to #Toronto #YYZ while #ONStorm is in progress. @AirCanada feels safe to fly, why not you @WestJet ? Cancelling Christmas for Canadians?

17/ I currently see 4 of 5 @AirCanada flights from Vancouver to Toronto. ZERO from @WestJet. Currently waiting for @AirCanada AC150 to depart #YYC. When it does, it's because I re-booked myself #AirCanada, not #Westjet. Let's see if weather played a factor.

18/ To clarify, I do not count the Live flights which haven't actually taken off yet.

19/ @AirCanada AC146 landed in @TorontoPearson at 9:02pm today from YYC during #WinterStorm. @WestJet still blaming their failure to get people home for #Christmas on weather. @CBCVancouver please don't mislead people. #Westjet is clearly culpable here.

20/ Just about to board my flight to @TorontoPearson to make it in time for #Christmas on a fare I rebooked myself with no compensation or comms from @WestJet while they continue to blame operational failure on weather. Once this takes off, I will testify for you @AirPassRightsCA

21/ I'm on an airplane now. In a seat that @WestJet should've put me on. There's now one less person in the Westjet Christmas Cancellation backlog because at least the other ones were able to operationally deliver passengers to families before Christmas, despite the weather.

23/ @AirCanada is taking me home for Christmas! Thank you everyone for reading and contributing. AmA in 3.5hrs and prayers to the victims of the #Westjet Christmas Massacre. Here is a great visual of how Westjet failed people on Dec 23. And even harder on those still in backlog.

24/ Bored on the airplane to Toronto, so let's pull together some additional failures on these "proactive cancellations" by @WestJet. Currently 3 of these 6 flights from @AirCanada and @FlairAirlines have landed at @TorontoPearson from @yvrairport .

25/ Let's check YYC-YUL, another proactive cancellation by Westjet due to weather. AC326, AC328 made it to Montreal. AC324 was cancelled. Originally WS212 was supposed to go at some point, but didn't try.

26/ Another proactively closed route from YYC-YOW Ottawa by Westjet. Here we have AC358 from Dec 22 which made it. The Dec 23 flight is making the journey right now while WS610 and WS612 aren't even trying. Is Ottawa immune to this #WinterStorm too?
