[1/6] The #UN Special Rapporteur for #HumanRights in the OPT, Francesca Albanese, has been under major attack, with accusations of anti-Semitism, for a social media post she made in 2014, for which she has apologised. @FranceskAlbs
[2/6] The attacks coincide with publication of Albanese’s recent report addressing numerous Israeli human rights violations in OPT, and the inalienable right of #Palestinians to self-determination.
[3/6] Those on the attack cite a highly problematic IHRA definition of anti-Semitism, which broadly equates criticism of Israeli policies as being anti-Semitic.
[4/6] The attacks parallel recent accusations against NGOs such as al-Haq, B’Tselem and Amnesty International, and are seen to be deliberate attempts to undermine any criticism of #Israel and the brutalities of its 55-year occupation.
[5/6] Those attacks continue to silence meaningful forms of dialogue, or platforms supporting Palestinian rights, while simultaneously distracting from true forms of anti-Semitism.
[6/6] #JahalinSolidarity stands with UN Sp. Rapp. Francesca Albanese and her work towards holding Israel accountable for its crimes, including the crime of #apartheid against the Palestinian people.
