I have an e-bike for heavy shopping and I was coming home yesterday with a heavy load. It was dark, wet, & windy. At a road crossing, two young people illegally on a weird tiny pedi electric bike, without number plates, started mocking me.
Then they started weaving about the cycle path laughing & giggling, following me home bullying me and intimidating me, hoping I would fall off my bike. I got home safely but they were at my house and frightened me. They didn’t care about the law.
However the bullying was minor compared to what happened on Tuesday. I had a big load of grocery shopping after Christmas coming from the big Tesco on Newmarket Road. I took the easy way home by road.
When l left the car park a boy racer roared past me to put himself in front of me on the space allocated to cyclists at the traffic lights and revved his engine to blow fumes into my face. I objected.
On the green lights, I moved ahead to the bus/cycle lane, while the racer was confronted with congestion. He than lost his temper, accelerated in front of my on the cycle lane, nearly knocking me over.
He then jumped out of the car and furiously marched up to me as I struggled with bike and shopping. I was so frightened I had a panic attack. The other motorists were concerned but did nothing.
The middle-aged muscled boy racer decided that it was not a good idea to punch me (I’m 81, disabled, helpless on a bike), and ran back to his filthy car and drove off. The police were driving around causing chaos with sirens screaming, so no help there.
What am I to do to draw attention to the lawlessness on the UK streets? I wouldn’t go to the police, because all I get is form filling, box ticking, & sympathy. This country is broken: I blame the #Conservatives for their meanness & incompetence over the last 12 years.
I fell off this bike when I came back from a hospital appointment on 14Dec because the cycle paths had not been de-iced. I also had to see the dentist. When I arrived, the previous patient had been treated because his front teeth had been broken by a fall on the ice.
Many people fell on the ice, but the hospital outpatient services were quiet because the ambulances were stuck in the snow. This is a failing society. This is what #PostTruthSociety looks like c/o @TheConservati19 i.e. the @Tories misrule.
All for the want of some salt and the means to distribute it.
We had two weeks of Arctic hell in Cambridge, UK, over the last three weeks. The pavements, walkways, cycle paths, sidewalks, and side roads were not de-iced. There was black ice, so many serious accidents. The authorities failed 😨 to act.
We in the UK seems to have to look after ourselves when things go wrong. Good government is missing. “We’ve never had it so bad” as PM Harold Macmillan did not say.

My guess is that this is the case. The system is so corrupt that all those involved are covering their collective backs. The situation is like that of the building industry, collectively responsible for the London Towering Inferno that was #Grenville.
The judge-led #Grenville enquiry concluded that those responsible at each point of the planning process were also responsible for the whole institutional failure. We expect that these findings will lead to major agreed reforms to the building codes and their enforcement.
It is imperative that those at the top at the time 1) the planners, public & private, 2) the chain of govt command, 3) the company directors & their regulators, and 4) industry-wide bodies, ALL these people & institutions must be punished for their role in #Grenville
#PostTruthEconomics has been exposed as an empty vessel, an old rotten barge dressed up as a buccaneering pirate ship taking on the financial markets, then collapsing into a few choice fragments: the reduction in stamp duties & the reversal of the NI rise.
Or in the #USA a crypto scam, powered by greed and lax laws in a crisis, leading to huge numbers of punters losing their shirts. #cryptocurrency fraud.
The @budget2022 was not fit for purpose, i.e. to generate economic growth. Its demise leaves the central aim of UK policy as stabilizing the markets, without a mandate. The best thing that has come out of the crisis is the utter discrediting of the @ILEA2021
What if all these nurses live on one side of the hospital where they work, or they have problems of mobility, as I do. And they use their car to drive to work on the other side of the hospital.
They could use a wheelchair or a buggy, but they haven’t got round to it, because it’s free. Of course they should pay!
Indeed. There would be a huge sigh of relief in the general population and a sense of gratitude in the elderly and infirm. These people are public servants just as much as the civil servants are public servants and they should be treated the same.
However in this happy world, are civil servants also to be paid the extra 20%? Surely it’s only fair. And MPs etc?
Your supposition appears to omit considerations of equity. Aren’t MPs paid enough already? Head teachers? Vice Chancellors? School Governors? Teachers in posh schools? Doctors in high office? Surgeons? Your supposition is far too general.
