🗣️ Brendan Rodgers on possible January outgoings: "If someone doesn’t want to be here, or someone wants too much money to be here, we have to be brave enough to say, ‘Thank you very much and on you go'...
“We’re not a club with masses of resources that can facilitate every single player’s need, especially from a financial side. A number of these guys are down on their last year. We have said before that we’d like them to stay...
"But there has to be a point in time where if what they want is too demanding for us as a club, and if the time is right, that they have to move on. We have to do that and then look forward.”
Leicester don't want to lose James Maddison mid-season. It would take a massive offer and #NUFC weren't prepared to make one last summer. Maddison is is contracted until summer 2024.
Maddison also wants to assess options. Although tempted by Newcastle last summer, the expectation remains there will be more than one suitor. Spurs remain one to watch. A summer move allows time to consider and know which teams have #UCL.
Youri Tielemans is more of a 'budget' option in January. And he doesn't want to sign a new #LCFC deal allowing clubs to also wait and get him on a free this summer. Tielemans still on Arsenal's radar.
Will be interesting to see whether anyone tries in January to offer #LCFC a fee. That's not Arsenal's planned tactic right now. But if another club moves they may be forced to pay or walk away.
Although a growing feeling Newcastle might try, #LCFC's preference (even if it means getting nothing for Tielemans) is to try and hang onto him (along with Maddison) until the end of the season. That makes negotiating with Leicester harder.
Caglar Soyuncu (linked with Atleitco Madrid), Jonny Evans, Daniel Amartey, Ryan Bertrand, Papy Mendy and Ayoze Perez are all out of contract in June, too.
Leicester's struggles in the market don't necessarily mean they will be forced to sell. Actually, difficulty buying now, injuries and the need to get out of trouble, means they prefer to hang on to key players knowing just how hard it will be to replace them mid-season.

From Chelsea’s perspective it’s not Mykhaylo Mudryk or Marcus Thuram. They are working on both. Chelsea know each target has complications. Issue with Mudryk is asking price coupled with the player’s desire to join Arsenal. Challenge with Thuram is getting a deal done now.
#CFC firmly believe they can agree a fee with Borussia Mönchengladbach, potentially as low as £8.5m. But Thuram has lots of options and will be available on a free this summer. Chelsea will push for January and it will likely come down to whether Thuram wants a mid-season move.
Very normal in any window, but especially one as fast moving as January, to advance multiple options. This is due to the likelihood another suitor may be successful and lack of time. The low fee of Thuram in January is of appeal but player buy in is crucial.
Arsenal have further talks scheduled over a Joao Felix loan. Atletico Madrid's demands remain high with the Spanish club hoping to pit suitors against each other. No package agreed yet. #AFC ideally want an option to buy (not a given) set below £70m and a loan fee around £5m.
#MUFC are now being told an £8m loan fee, as previously reported, is Atleti's current expectation. This is a reduction from before Christmas but still well above what Manchester United think reasonable, especially given Felix's £5.3m wages. Any club must take on all of this.
Obviously a bit of a divide between what the Glazers want to spend, especially with the club up for sale, and what Erik ten Hag wants. No doubt the #MUFC boss is pushing for Felix. #MUFC also exploring Wout Weghorst, but they never made a loan offer for Vincent Aboubakar.
Joško Gvardiol tells @RTLDanas his dream club as a boy was Liverpool and he's in no rush to leave Leipzig this winter. "I'm not in a hurry. I'm at Leipzig and we still have six months to finish the season and to win something. And then we will look further to the future...
Gvardiol admits a transfer to Chelsea almost happened at the end of the last window. "Last summer a transfer was close and they simply kept me. I hope to spend these six months with them [Leipzig]. Chelsea did not give up, but it was agreed that we would go for the winter...
"Winter has come, so we need to see what and how to proceed, but it's okay, there's still plenty of time, so we'll see... Nobody presented anything to me. But I'm not in a hurry, we have time, let them arrange the plan and we'll see.
Still no Arsenal concern following Chelsea meetings with Shakhtar over Mykhaylo Mudryk. #AFC have their own top-end valuation in mind and won't get sucked into a bidding war.
Shakhtar continue to demand €100m and can do so quite bullishly with plenty of time left in the window. But there is still a belief the price will drop and the structure of any offer will prove important.
Chelsea are not expected to meet Shakhtar's public valuation. They also want to understand if Mudryk is open to joining them over #AFC. At this stage, and with Arsenal still in active talks, Mudryk has indicated he wants a move to the Emirates Stadium.
🚨 Brighton CEO Paul Barber tells me there have been no offers yet for Moises Caicedo. "I'm pleased to say we haven't had any. Maybe they [#LFC] haven't got my email because I haven't seen any."
Caicedo more on Chelsea than Liverpool's radar currently, especially with Enzo Fernandez stalling. #CFC sources deny they ever intended to trigger his €120m release clause despite claims by Benfica manager Roger Schmidt. #CFC aren't entirely ruling out another try for Fernandez.
Brighton aren't actively planning for a Caicedo exit in January and only a significant offer will change that. In August, then-Brighton boss Graham Potter joked £42m would only buy Caicedo's boots. Brighton now value Caicedo at £70m+.
Chelsea’s interest in Mykhaylo Mudryk doesn’t worry Arsenal. #AFC remain optimistic. Shakhtar still want more money upfront and an overall package closer to €80m. #AFC second bid was under €70m.
Multiple sources anticipate Mudryk is more likely to end up at Arsenal. The opportunity for #CFC will only emerge if #AFC walk away. And Arsenal’s calmness from the situation comes from the fact they have a maximum price in mind to do exactly that regardless of a rival suitor.
Should Chelsea make a massive offer (well above market value and beyond Arsenal’s top-end valuation) it would play into Shakhtar’s hands. But Arsenal won’t get involved in a bidding war.
