Thread on my observations from

#USA vs @BigoBarnett trial today:

Today featured cross of Govt witness Emily Barret then full testimony of both @CapitalPolice Capt Carneysha Mandoza, and Rogers AK @BassProShops Asset Protection employee Gerald Studdy.

#J6 #journorequests
Trial resumed in the morning with @McBrideLawNYC cross-examining @SpeakerPelosi’s Chief of Staff Emily Berret who’s desk it was Bigo famously sat at and left $0.25 for the bloody envelope he took from her desk and later voluntarily surrendered along with himself.
Emily Barret made it clear that she never personally observed Bigo on that day or any other and that she had only learned of his presence in @SpeakerPelosi’s office from watching the news.

She stated she watches @CNN @MSNBC reads the @washingtonpost & considers them credible.
When @McBrideLawNYC asked the Pelosi staffer of 10 years if she was aware of any other time protesters had entered the Congresswoman’s office, Emily stated no which prompted McBride to refresh her memory with a @washingtonpost article from 2019 (and an additional incident)
The additional incident involved @AOC when she was Congresswoman Elect protesting inside Pelosi’s office in Nov 2018.

McBride went in deep with very specific questions to identify that Emily Berret was aware of the other two in-office Pelosi protests as Emily maintained a literal position of making a distinction between Pelosi’s offices that without Mcbride’s clarifying would have been missed.
McBride then used Emily’s earlier description of Pelosi’s office to highlight historic civil rights “Good Trouble” Congressman John Lewis, who is memorized by a portrait in Pelosi’s office.

Rep John Lewis was a proud and impactful protester during the civil rights movement.
McBride also challenged Emily Berret on the difference between what she had stated to the Jury yesterday and what she had told the FBI regarding her morning commute on J6.

In court she described driving to the Capital as any normal day but to the FBI she stated she walked…
…due to some advanced knowledge of potential unrest which would risk damaging her new car.

She explained this detailed discrepancy (which included detailed specifics) by stating that between her Dec 8 2022 FBI interview and her testimony yesterday, her husband clarified to her.
After Emily Berret describes how Bigo interrupted the active Congressional Proceeding of Certification, McBride highlights the difference between the time Congress recessed and the time Bigo entered.
Emily describes despite never seeing Bigo in person she has personal knowledge of how he ‘obstructed the proceeding’

She stated “he was in my personal space. I have personal knowledge.” Referring to her desk.

She then described how his presence caused delaying Congresses’ work
After a brief exchange about why taking the bloody envelope was an issue but she had thrown away other US govt property ($0.25) US Attorney Michael Gordon redirected Emily focusing on the interruption of the proceedings and how Bigo need not be solely responsible.
Gordon concluded the Government’s redirect by focusing on the sacred nature of the area that was breached
The next witness was 20 year veteran @CapitalPolice Captain Carneysha Montoza who was the second shift Tactical Commander that day and arrived that afternoon some time earlier than she anticipated. She was responsible for commanding between 200-300 Police.
