Delhi High Court dismisses a plea by separatist organisation Dukhtaran-e-Millat challenging the Centre government's decision to declare it a 'terrorist organisation'.

The group was declared a 'terrorist organisation in 2004.

ASG Chetan Sharma appeared for the Centre today and argued that it is the prerogative of the Centre govt to say who is a terrorist and who is not.

The ASG said that the information that Dukhtaran-e-Millat was declared a terrorist organisation has been in public domain since 2004 but the group chose to come to court only in 2022.

ASG Sharma added that the plea seeking further information related to the group being declared a terrorist organisation is not maintainable.
It was DeM's case that they got to know about the declaration only when chargesheetcs were filed in ourt in 2018 against its members.

In his order, Justice Anish Dayal noted that UAPA provides that an application can be made to the Centre government to remove an organisation from the schedule. And the government can prescribe the procedure to make such an application.

Since no such application had been moved by DeM, the court dismissed the plea noting that an alternative remedy prescribed under the statute is available to the to the petitioner.
