"He is my son no longer. He is the child of this country, a soldier fighting for his motherland like a true patriot, give him no special treatment." said the
#FieldMarshal to Pakistan's Ayub Khan.

The day K M Cariappa took over the reins of
the Indian Army, 15 January 1949, is marked as official Army Day and celebrated annually.

The Newspaper Article attached is a must read.

This man minced no words...always ramrod straight.
INA's slogan Jai Hind which means
"Victory to India", was adopted by Cariappa and later it became a formal phrase between personnel to greet each other. He also turned down the proposal to reserve vacancies in the Army for SC & ST as had been done in other govt services.
His distinguished military career spanned almost 3 decades. Born on 28 Jan 1899, in Madikeri, Cariappa joined the British Indian Army shortly after the end of WW I & has few distinctions under him.
The 1st Indian military officer to attend the Staff College, Quetta.
1st Indian
to command a battalion.
The 1st of two Indians selected to undergo training at the Imperial Defence College in Camberley.

In 1939, the Skeen Committee was set up to examine the options for the Indianisation of the Indian Army's officer ranks. As Cariappa was one of the most
senior officers with 19 years of service, the committee held several discussions with him. He expressed his displeasure at the treatment of Indian officers in the Army. He stressed the discrimination shown in terms of appointments, promotions, benefits and allowances to which
European officers were entitled but Indian officers were not.

He was widely acclaimed for his treatment of the INA prisoners. When Cariappa visited one of the camps holding them, he was moved by the conditions in which they lived. He immediately wrote to the Adjutant General
recommending that their living conditions be improved.

2 months after Partition, Pak Army sent infiltrators into Baramulla area. The Maharaja of Kashmir on 26-10-1947, signed the Instrument of Accession.
Army had to be shifted urgently to Srinagar to defend the territory.
A lot of delay was caused by both Mountbatten & by PMO’s Office in giving a green signal. General Cariappa managed to shift the Indian Army by air in nick of the moment, to successfully repel the attack. Both Gen Cariappa and Gen Thimayya were ready to take back the Pak Occupied
portions of Kashmir, but unfortunately Nehru declared ceasefire without consulting his Commanders. During the battle, the Army managed to kill 900 of them and this came to be known as ‘Operation Kipper.’ At this very moment, General Cariappa was transferred to New Delhi away
from the theatre of action !

In 1951, the CoAS, Gen Cariappa, apprised Nehru of the growing Chinese threat across the Himalayas. The PM chided: “It is not the business of the Commander-in-Chief to tell the PM who is going to attack us where. In fact, the Chinese will defend our
NEFA frontier. You mind only Kashmir and Pakistan.”

Despite the lack of recognition at the time, Cariappa's warnings about China's ambitions proved prescient in the long run.

During the 1965 war, his son, Nanda, was shot down over Pak. He was captured & held as a POW.
On realizing the identity of the wounded soldier at Kargil, Radio Pakistan immediately announced the capture of the younger Cariappa. Gen Ayub Khan himself contacted Gen Cariappa, who was living a retired life at Madikeri, with information about his son's safety. When Ayub Khan
offered to release his son immediately, Cariappa is reported to have told him to give his son no better treatment than any other POW.

A Leader, Commander and a guiding beacon that led an entire nation and her armed forces — Field Marshal Kodandera Madappa Cariappa was the
first Indian C-i-C of the Army. He was to his men the epitome of gentlemanly conduct and selflessness. His ideals still hold sway in the Indian Military Establishment. His greatest gift to the Indian People, probably was a fighting force that was no less compared to any other in
the world & yet had commendable restraint that prevented the Army from ever meddling directly in the political machinations of the country. This delineation lent a sense of integrity & unique purpose to the Military Establishment that has held it in good stead all these years.
The credit for this must go to K.M. Cariappa.

Field Marshal Cariappa's health began to deteriorate in 1991; he suffered from arthritis & heart problems. He passed away in his sleep on 15 May 1993, at the Bangalore Command Hospital where he had been receiving treatment for a
few years. His mortal remains were cremated in Madikeri 2 days later. The cremation was attended by the 3 service chiefs along with Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw. Cariappa's son, Nanda, lit the pyre while the Honour Guard reversed arms

#NotMyMahatma - 1.

Before going inside, let us not forget this fact that, Gandhi never moved, nor Congress never passed, a resolution condemning brutalities on revolutionaries.

British enhanced Gandhi's stature worldwide through publicity, encomiums, awards and velvet glove Image
handling . This in turn fed into the personality cult surrounding him, thanks to the susceptibility of Indian masses to personae who appear as avatars, and in due course facilitated the subversion of national goals.

This series explores Gandhi & I will leave it to the readers
as they are better judges…

Did MKG truly believe in Ahimsa or it was stage managed only to protect British from revolutionary freedom fighters?

He called the revolutionaries who had risked their everything to serve their motherland as enemies of the country, simply because

There is a message to Hindus in this Law Minister's Life Story.

When Congress including MKG tried to trample on Bhim Rao, it was #JogendranathMandal who helped him to enter Constituent Assembly.

Later on, he defied Dr Ambedkar, said he knows more about Muslims than him. Image
Mandal held the “myth” that Dalits will be treated better in the newly created State of Pakistan, a country carved out of India on the basis of religion (Two -Nation Theory).

He Joined hands with Muslim League before Partition & Became the 1st Law Minister Of Pakistan.
It was due to Mandal’s misadventure that Sylhet, a district of Assam went to East Pakistan. He convinced the Dalits to vote in favour of Pakistan.

Mandal, a champion of Dalit rights, supported the Objective Resolutions that turned Pakistan into an Islamic Republic. Image

In a sense, he was #TheBharataRatna

He was supposed to become a Father at Church but turned as an enemy number one for both Indira & D-I-L Antonio Maino.

#GeorgeFernandes & the brutal days of Emergency & beyond.

One will wonder what happened to that journalism ImageImage
of BBC after reading this?

On the night of June 25-26 1975, as leading politicians were being arrested, a telephone operator, who overheard some telephone conversations about the arrests, tipped off George Fernandes, who was holidaying with his wife Leila Kabir and infant son
in Gopalpur on Sea in Odisha.

Chandrashekhar was arrested from Rivoli theatre in Connaught Place, where he was watching a late night movie with BP Koirala. The sympathetic police officer took Chandrashekhar to a nearby phone booth, and told him: "I am delaying recording your

‘Gandhism’ according to Roy was dangerous because “on the strength of one man’s personality, India was falsely construed as a pure cultural entity”.

THE LAST GOOD COMMUNIST PASSED AWAY ON THIS DAY IN 1954.

The readers will judge why I used these words once you finish reading
this thread/post.

In 1938, the hosts at Wadia House, Bombay were taken aback to see #Roy coming to the breakfast table in white Dhoti-Kurta in true Bengali Style who preferred to wear suits shirts & trousers.
Noticing the puzzled look he said, I'M GOING TO PAY MY RESPECTS TO
#VeerSavarkar.

#ManabendranathRoy, the founder of #CommunistPartyofIndia added, I'm sure the Old Man will be pleased to see me dressed as a full fledged Indian rather than as Westernized Revolutionary.
Having said that MN Roy went to meet Veer Savarkar & BOWED TO HIS FEET.
