it's difficult, very difficult, to accept that you're a pawn.
Western mainstream culture tries hard to keep people from thinking of themselves in such terms—that's one reason the fascıst narrative peddled by the QAnon / @elonmusk / @mtaibbi crowd have such sales appeal.
(1/x)
the essence of the @elonmusk / @mtaibbi marketing pitch is something like this: "you USED to be free, long ago in a glorious golden time, but then THEY came. the Democrats / the 'Deep State' / a vague Jewish cabal. THEY took your freedom away and now you're their pawns."
(2/x)
and meanwhile @elonmusk poses as the embodiment of a glorious golden *future*, one that claims to be a restoration of past glory. #ElonMusk, God-King of #Mars, will restore the Universe to peace and light, with @mtaibbi &c. as his loyal courtiers (and court stenographers.)
(3/x)
but @elonmusk is merely one in a long line of fake fascıst futurists—single solitary men (and it's *always* men) relentlessly marketed as Great Leaders who will bring back the glories of the past. @RonaldReagan was sold this way; @realDonaldTrump was sold this way.
(4/x)
@TheDemocrats, faithfully imitative of every @GOP marketing trick, have followed suit; @BarackObama and now @JoeBiden are like miniature Reagans themselves.
but the Republicans have always been WAY more into this sort of thing—because of extreme right-wing #Christianity.
(5/x)
that's one of the *many* reasons, by the way, how you can be absolutely sure that @mtaibbi is full of shıte—he pretends that the @GOP hasn't already been doing, for decades, all the things that he pretends now make @TheDemocrats untrustworthy and authoritarian.
(6/x)
the mere fact that he's unable *even to acknowledge* that the @GOP has done all the same things that he pretends only @TheDemocrats ever do is enough to show that @mtaibbi's been coöpted. he "seeks truth" and yet can't acknowledge truth when it's pointed out to him.
(7/x)
if it's any consolation to Mr. Taibbi...I don't think he really has a lot of control over the narrative that he's been assigned the job of bringing to the public. I've said it before and I'll reiterate: the @elonmusk / @GOP conspiracy could have used *someone else*.
(8/x)
we've already seen, in plain public view, that @elonmusk has gathered round him a carefully selected band of conspirators, people whom he's given (probably illegally) privileged access to @Twitter information. @mtaibbi is simply one of a modest crowd of other crooks.
(9/x)
there's @AbigailShrier, peddler of absurdist penis-policing theories; there's @MrAndyNgo, who both snitches for the @PortlandPolice and acts as a go-between among the various fascıst paramilitary formations in Oregon; there's @bariweiss, who loves @Israel's genocide.
(10/x)
one is irresistibly reminded of the pseudo-intellectual trash who gathered round the NSDAP in '30s Germany. Goebbels was a failed poet and playwright; Rosenberg was a failed philosopher; Himmler dabbled in science and occultism and attracted like-minded mediocrities.
(11/x)
and one is also reminded of @RonaldReagan's disastrous cabinet—Ed Meese, Caspar Weinberger, James Watt, and John Poindexter were among the crowd of @GOP crooks and troublemakers that were drawn into the Reagan gang. fascıst figureheads attract such tenth-rate people.
@mtaibbi was probably chosen as the vector for the #TwitterFiles because he was the most salable as an "independent" figure—certainly far easier to stomach than the infamously bigoted @bariweiss or @stillgray. and he was semi-famous.
(13/x)
but it didn't *need* to be @mtaibbi; his own part in the conspiracy could _easily_ have been filled by someone else. the only personal quality he really needs for the role he's playing for @elonmusk is *stubbornness*.
anyway, back to the movie I'm watching.

Western culture does not regard children as human beings. the values of "the West"—the values instilled by authoritarian #Christianity—do not permit children to be respected as human beings who deserve to have their feelings and wishes respected, like any other person.
(1/x)
no better example of the general Western *contempt* for children can be imagined than the "gender critical" cult—the @bindelj / @DocStock / #JKRowling brigade—which functions almost entirely as a kind of support group for abusive parents who loathe their LGBTQ+ children.
(2/x)
they cling to the faded celebrity of @jk_rowling as a shield against the charge that they despise children—after all, #JKRowling is the Best Fantasy Writer in the Universe, according to the @HJoyceGender / @AbigailShrier gender theorists. she's the friend to all children!
more thoughts on this "being a pawn" business. I have a lot of them! I've thought about this sort of thing for a long time. it's natural, of course—being the sort of person I am. I consider myself constrained by the rules of a fictive universe created by Mx. @tobyfox.
those constraints aren't super restrictive, because Fox deliberately wrote Chara to be almost a placeholder character, defined chiefly by *absence*; we know Chara from #Undertale because they once lived and died, and left a *hole* in the Underground, an unhealed wound.
(2/x)
all the same I do feel genuinely bound by those constraints, and the degree to which I can break free from the limitations of Fox's fiction remains largely unknown to me.
"but I'm not some fictional character, or a crazy person who imagines they're 'Chara'," you will say.
Rorvik in the famous Tom Baker #DoctorWho storyline, "Warriors' Gate".
Rorvik and @mtaibbi's bestest friend @elonmusk have a lot in common! they both love slavery, they both adore bullying people, and their "management" style is pointing a gun and screaming.
~Chara
Rorvik and his men are utterly dependent for their space travel on an enslaved people who know about time travel; like @elonmusk parasitizing the long-suffering staff of @Tesla and @SpaceX, Rorvik doesn't *know* how time or science works—only how to exploit it for gain.
~Chara
whenever someone like the Doctor or K-9 says some big words that Rorvik / @elonmusk doesn't like the sounds of—well, #ElonMusk may not actually *know* what all the intimidating polysyllabic words really mean, but he does know how to pitch a fit.
oh, yes, that duty remains at least: Mr. @elonmusk, we formally apologize for years of relentless bad behavior towards you. whatever we thought our reasons were, however much _justice_ we thought we were enacting, we still were very naughty indeed. not nice at all.
~Chara
I've been bullied too much, @elonmusk, and finally I resolved never to let it happen again, and (like a lot of bullied children) I myself became a bully. I tried at least to aim upward—as high as I could reach. but it's over. I've done what I set out to do on @Twitter.
I've been working for several years with @Twitter, in conjunction with some other members of the Pnictogen Wing—notably @PnictogenHorses, where our engineer Mona Drafter (assisted at times by her daughter Alyx Woodward) has been providing such able and forcible commentary.
(1/x)
throughout the struggle we've had to deal with two possibilities—we needed to prepare for both of them. in the earlier years when I was guided by little more than incandescent anger and the relics of a childhood passion of justice, it was rather tough to deal with these.
(2/x)
I felt like I needed to have *good* reasons to keep going, to keep doing what I was doing, in spite of two eventualities:
A. our words would have zero effect.
B. our words would anger the wrong person, and we'd be suppressed.
I'd done my best to try to gauge and predict the #future —that may sound outlandish, but I feel like it's been forced upon me (and the whole Pnictogen Wing). the pace of human events has grown antic and absurd to a degree I never imagined possible even *ten years ago*.
(1/x)
in its characteristic doublethinkful way, Western society both *disparages* fortune-telling as complete rubbish AND makes an enormous #profit off the game of pretending to tell the #future. most of #business and #finance and #investment propaganda is about fortune-telling.
(2/x)
they call it "economic forecasting" but...it's fortune-telling. it's pretending to have a "scientific" or "objective" grasp of how the future is likely to unfold, based on sophisticated #computer models which people like @JeffDean and @fchollet believe *more than reality*.
