Gotta say, like others, I was pretty stunned to see Australia's chief #covid minimiser & gaslighter Nick Coatsworth given 'Ambassador' position at Australian Patients Association (APA), so I decided to check out their website.Dear readers, it's interesting. A 🧵 #auspol
APA's Team: quite heavy on the legal/commerce, marketing, medical research, credit management, although mentions their admin manager once had a "serious illness". The Board has a "services executive", law/commerce, law/economics, pharmaceuticals, consumer advocate, yay, a nurse!
APA Patron is current CEO of Aus Psychologists Assoc, former CEO of RACGP (but not a medical Dr)
Corporate Members: hmmm, 4 private health insurance co's, 6 pharmaceutical co's & 10 more co's
Not seeing any groups so far feature patient's voice...oh wait, here it is...
"The APA is the voice of and for Australian patients. Hearing the patients voice and their lived experience is vital to our success...
We canvas the concerns and needs of Australian patients via our “Have Your Say” survey"
Let's look at the survey: hmmm, looking pretty basic
So, what happens after you submit your story? Well, if you consent, they'll put it on their website. Then what? Well...there's mention of a separate Australian Healthcare Index survey, but no update since early 2021. But what about your patient experience?
APA's submissions page features reports they've submitted to various committees etc. A skim read of a few of them show mainstream news articles & medical journals referenced a few times but no patient surveys...
Covid page doesn't look updated since 2020...
Back to the patient stories that have been submitted through the website...I can't find them. Where are they? Where are they collated? Who decides what should be published? Why is the patient stories page (if there is one) so difficult to find?
For a group that claims to be...
...the voice of Australian patients, I can't find anything containing the voice of Australian patients, or their lived experience.
Which leads me to ask: what exactly is the Australian Patients Association for, if it's not for patients?? #auspol#Medicare@RonniSalt

Plenty of blue ticks in #auspol & #nswpol media world who are slamming Jordan Shanks right now, but not one of them can name a journalist or reporter from a major outlet who is extensively covering Barilaro's corruption. Not one. Gaps in a market will always get filled, 1/5
& right now, that's been filled by #FriendlyJordies. Am I a fan of his delivery every time? No, I'm not. But it's the content that's important. Can any blue tick media reflect enough to understand that if THEY WERE COVERING IMPORTANT STORIES, there would be no need for Jordan 2/5
Is there any blue tick media reflecting upon why Barilaro inappropriately used #nswpolice Fixated Persons Unit to try intimidate the Friendly Jordies team into silence? Is it because you already have been intimidated into silence? Because from average punter here on the couch 3/5
