More propaganda from the free-market extremist Telegraph, who claim 'Head of #NHS review General Gordon Messenger says more money won't solve #NHS crisis!' Messenger's review recommendations were dismissed as "either peripheral or so vague as to be virtually worthless".
In June 2022, General Messenger completed a review of leadership in the English #NHS considering the "pay & incentives" of its most senior figures, as well as the "effective systems for intervention & recovery in both providers & integrated care systems".

The Review called for improved leadership & made it perfectly clear the #NHS actually has “far too few managers” with low spending on administration & planning compared to other healthcare systems.
We knew this in 2011, when the King’s Fund think tank wrote: “There is no persuasive evidence that the #NHS is over-managed, and a good deal of evidence that it may be under-managed.”
We knew this when the Institute for Fiscal Studies suggests that the #NHS spends about half the OECD average on admin and planning – about 1.5 per cent of its budget, compared to 4.1 per cent in France and 7.9 per cent in the US.

It should be obvious that managers are useful.
Policy analyst Steve Black: “There is no point having a doctor in the operating theatre if the anaesthetist hasn’t turned up, the theatre hasn’t been cleaned, the hospital has run out of blood and there is no bed available to receive the patient when the operation is over.”
But for a decade and more, there has been a consistent drive in the NHS to reduce the number of people doing that work. Over the last decade, the number of managerial staff was slashed – dropping around 30% between 2010 & 2013, mainly under Lansley’s disastrous 2012 reforms.
So we’ve had a decade-long experiment in “more frontline staff” & “fewer fat-cat managers” and the result has been a steady decline in #NHS performance by most metrics. There’s also been underinvestment in capital – basic infrastructure, things like functioning computers or beds.
This isn’t to say the #NHS has enough doctors & nurses; it is to say that doctors & nurses aren’t the bottleneck. We’re not getting everything we can out of the clinicians we have, because they’re spending three hours a day on admin and managerial work, rather than with patients.
The billionaire-owned press has attacked the #NHS since its inception, because it signifies everything they hate: the #socialist principle of a compassionate Govt looking after those in need, regardless of wealth, class, religion, age, sex, ethnicity or educational attainment.
The Tories hate the 'socialist #NHS' & have spent years attacking it & cutting the number of #NHS managers, to the point where it's blindingly obvious that the NHS now has “far too few managers” with low spending on administration & planning compared to other healthcare systems.
Politically motivated cuts to management, combined with successive Govts making #NHS purchasing increasingly complex & competitive, means doctors & nurses are being forced to spend hours doing managerial and admin work.

Finally, the #NHS review by Messenger also highlighted that 'all NHS leaders have a responsibility to take a zero tolerance approach to discrimination & drive greater equality, diversity & inclusion,' which immediately led to lurid headlines in the right-wing press like this:

🚨@BBC CLARIFICATION🚨

During a @BBCNews interview about the prescription of statins, consultant cardiologist (& imho grifting fearmongering conspiracist outlier) Dr Aseem Malhotra made unprompted claims about excess deaths & Covid vaccines which were not challenged at the time. Image
Dr Malhotra referred to British Heart Foundation (BHF) figures showing there’ve been just over 30,000 excess deaths involving heart disease since the pandemic began.
Dr Malhotra said: “what my own research has found, and this is something that is probably a likely contributory factor, is that the covid mRNA vaccines do carry a cardiovascular risk.”

He acknowledged ‘uncertainty’ at what is causing excess deaths...

Who is Alan Mabbutt?

A new Tory website paints union donations to @UKLabour, collected from workers in every sector, as some kind of problem.

In 2017, @Conservatives received 10 TIMES MORE in donations than Labour, much of it from dodgy Russians & non-dom tax-avoiders! Image
The website is "Promoted by Alan Mabbutt on behalf of the Conservative Party".

In 2021 he was (still is) the Conservative Party DG & Registered Treasurer, & was named by the Electoral Commission in this damning report into Johnson's #wallpapergate lies.

In 2015, the Tories were embroiled in a scandal under Cameron when it was revealed they were spending £100,000/month on Facebook ads, the bulk spent on collecting email addresses - back then a new method of bombarding voters with political messaging...

Specific terms with very different meanings, such as ‘asylum seeker’, ‘refugee’ & ‘migrant’, are increasingly & misleadingly used interchangeably, & frequently collapsed into the single category of ‘foreigner’ or ‘other’, or more recently in the UK, "illegals".
This is despite the very clear definitions of these legal terms.

Fear of foreigners is constructed; they are framed as dangerous "illegals" "flooding" into Britain, & blamed for many problems - certain 'foreigners' are the scapegoats of the present era.

"Border Force officials predict 80,000 of these ILLEGALS will FLOOD in via the Channel this year alone." "Not to mention a national emergency on the Channel with unprecedented ILLEGALS arriving." - GB "News" presenter, Dan Wootton.

I had a close friend die suddenly from cardiac arrest when he was young - twenty-five years ago.

Thank fuck that damaged shit-stirring ghouls like @DrAseemMalhotra weren't around to spread their grotesquely offensive opportunist shit - I don't know how I would have responded. 🤬
"The vaccines from Pfizer & Moderna do carry a rare risk — most frequently for young men — of myocarditis, though experts & officials say the benefits of vaccination outweigh the risks. Cardiologists have not observed any dramatic increase."

'Died Suddenly' flashes through dozens of upsetting news reports

One headline: "My kind, compassionate son died unexpectedly." Another clip shows a young athlete dramatically keeling over.

The son died in a car crash. And the athlete was unvaccinated.

Tory donors who have collectively given the party more than £21MILLION since 2001 have been declared as the ultimate owners of UK properties held through more than 150 offshore companies.

The #ToryShitShow never stops.

theguardian.com/politics/2023/…
The @BBC chair & Sunak’s old boss Richard Sharp, more than 20 other Tory donors, & a string of billionaires are among those who have declared they own UK property through offshore jurisdictions - presumably for the sole purpose of avoiding paying UK tax.

theguardian.com/business/2023/…
Sharp "has been thinking about how to provide for his children on his death. This arrangement isn’t about a personal tax benefit to him as he pays more UK tax under this arrangement, but about him planning for provision for his children."

So is it about avoiding inheritance tax?

A survey commissioned in 2019 revealed the shocking result that over half of British people did not know that at least six millions Jews had been murdered during the #Holocaust.

#HolocaustMemorialDay #LightTheDarkness

theconversation.com/teaching-the-h…
The #Holocaust, as a topic, has been part of the national curriculum in England & Wales since its creation in 1991. The 2014 iteration of the national curriculum has the Holocaust as a firm part of key stage 3 history – compulsory for all 11 to 14-year-olds in state schools.
However, research into what school pupils in England know about the #Holocaust shows that - like swathes of the adult population who are subject to highly partisan & divisive newspapers - they lack knowledge about its context.
