Memories at your first place of work often stay fresh even after a long time. Sharing an experience of mine from Internship which helped me to improve the way I deal with my colleagues.
#MedTwitter #JIPMER #Internship
I was an intern and was doing my rotation in department of medicine. We used to have floor duties where we had to take care of patients admitted to the ward as per the PG resident’s direction.
(1/n)
During one of those floor duty days I was busy finishing the list of tasks given to me by the resident on duty when I noticed the nursing staff posted at the ward.
(2/n)
Usually there used to be two nursing officers on duty at a ward but that day there was only one and she was a new recruit, probably younger than me. I could see that she was apprehensive as she was new at the hospital.
(3/n)
I just introduced myself as the intern on duty and was absorbed in my work and then I heard someone shouting from the nursing station. It was the nursing supervisor who came on rounds scolding this new staff for not maintaining some register properly.
(4/n)
The supervisor left after 2 minutes of shouting but the new staff started crying and she did not stop at all for a while. I was concerned and tried to calm her down but I couldn’t help.
(5/n)
It took some time for her to resume the work and had much to catchup as she was not able to work for sometime. I told her that she shouldn’t be affected by such behaviour and only thing that she can do is to not become like her senior when she gets to that age.
(6/n)
I finished my work for that day and left the ward and never saw this lady again. But this incident stayed in my mind and I have told many of my friends regarding this incident.
(7/n)
I never understood why people shout at others at workplace. It only reduces a person’s efficacy at work and some people just leave because of the bullying.
(8/n)
This supervisor should have looked in to why this new staff was not able to carry out her work and given solutions rather than shouting at her in front of her patients and colleagues. This would have helped to build her skills at work.
(9/n)
This incident helped me to decide that I will always treat my coworkers with respect and talk to them kindly.
You don’t become senior at work to shout and harass your coworkers but to help them work better by solving their problems and make the system smoother.
(11/n)
Almost 10 years have gone and when I reflect I can see that some times I have lost my cool at my workplace but I am glad that I kept trying to be a good colleague to my friends at work.
(12/n)
I never regret for being kind to people at work as it has only helped me to make good memories and great friends. Being accommodating will only help you to build other people’s life as you will be making positive changes around you.

I see many MBBS students and young doctors in Twitter. I thought I will post some thoughts of mine about career choices here which may help a few people.
#MedTwitter #NEETPG #PLAB #USMLE
When I was in college from 2008-14, there was no provision of high speed internet till final year and internship. So there were no YouTube videos to help and guide me regarding career choices.

(1/n)
I was totally confused about what to do next and was not keen to take up busy specialities. I decided to do PG in PSM or Psychiatry and went for PG coaching in Kerala after a brief period of working.

I have been learning how to value relationships throughout my life and God has been kind to teach me this for free.

This is a recent incident of a dramatic reunion after a decade.

As part of my VISA appointment I had to travel to Delhi from Dehradun. I planned to take the train instead of bus this time and decided to stay with my childhood friend who is working in Delhi presently.

With some papers to be printed at Delhi the next morning I was a bit stressed but was thoroughly enjoying my train journey after a long time and the train reached Haridwar after an hour.

There are so many people in this world.

But in our life we meet only a handful of them and we meet them for a purpose.

So be thankful and be sincere when you relate closely with any individual.

It was mid 2008 and I was quite ecstatic as I was joining college for MBBS course. I had prepared for one year for selection and it all seemed surreal. But the fact that I will be staying away from home was bringing occasional pain as well.

I got admission in Kottayam Medical College and planned to stay in a private PG facility near the college than the college hostel fearing ragging.I had a room which was three-sharing with a batchmate and a senior who was preparing for PG entrance exam.
