Precarious work is a huge issue in Waterloo Region. Employees often lack insurance, sick leave and there is lack of predictability of income that creates the inability to feed & house families. I know professors who rely on food banks. People need job security.
Managers have discretionary power to cut back hours removing the health benefits of part time workers. Some Professors don’t know if they have a job until two weeks before the term starts.
Precarious work mainly targets women, minorities & new immigrants. A person should not have to choose between spreading Covid or losing their job. Temp agencies make money flipping employees not in providing for an individuals long term success in the workforce. 
The increase of precarious work hits all sectors. In 2020 Enbridge confirmed about 800 employees have agreed to take voluntary buyouts in the form of early retirement, severance, educational or personal leaves of absence, or part-time work. calgaryherald.com/business/local…
