Huge Civil Rights story buried in a Friday night news dump.

Asst AG for Civil Rights Kristen Clarke says that this Montana man has been convicted of Federal Hate Crimes and Firearms Charges for a shooting "Intended to rid community of all justice.gov/opa/pr/montana…… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
According to Asst AG Clarke, the intent was to "violently eliminate the entire lesbian and gay community" of a Montana town. The shooter fired "an AK-style rifle" into the home of a Montana lesbian.
Asst AG Kristen Clarke said the sole reason the victim was targeted was her sexual orientation.

After shooting into the 1st house and armed with 3 rifles, the shooter continued to other houses known to be occupied by lesbian and gay people.
This is the result of extremist anti-LGBTQ rhetoric by the GOP, as I reported here.

The difference between what Sherrod Brown is doing regarding the #EastPalestineOhio train derailment and what JD Vance is doing really does highlight how the GOP side-steps corporate accountability.
Martha Raddatz has experts on @ThisWeekABC talking about how the toxicity is being handled--and they are legit low-key. They both state quite clearly that there has to be much more testing of the air, water and home surfaces. Both said they would not go home without more testing.

I've been thinking a lot about #widowhood since The Wife died. There used to be rules women followed at the death of a spouse. There still are in many cultures/religions. The rules were to maintain respect for the widow, to advertise her loss and support her in her grief.

There was a period of wearing black and a veil. Then just black. Then grey. Then mauve or purple. The stages of grief and recovery. But of course not everyone recovered. And in an era of often forced marriage, there wasn't always true grief.

But now, widows are expected to move on. Barely two weeks after The Wife's sudden death for which I was utterly unprepared, people were asking me out on dates. (And still are.) Men and women. It feels shocking and disrespectful. But a couple friends said it's common.
