🧵FYI this is the time, after 2 weeks of coverage, when mainstream media moves off of a catastrophic story like #EastPalestineOH—when the cameras leave & coverage shifts from hourly/daily to occasional updates to abandon the story altogether. This happened w/ #FlintWaterCrisis.
Mainstream media outlets typically only care when they deem an URGENCY to a catastrophe—when it's new and the flames, or poison water, or adverse health symptoms seem most dire. In my experience, once they predictably stop covering and caring, is when the REAL coverup begins...
That coverup is a mixture of government, media, and in the case of East Palestine, the corporate (Norfolk Southern), pushing forward flawed testing in order to provide the "all clear" sign and sweep things under the rug. The void of media coverage—particularly ON-THE-GROUND...
provides a false & dangerous sense of security and closure to a story--giving people and news consumers the false impression that the story is resolved or things have gotten better in East Palestine (or Flint). Meanwhile, residents continue to get sicker, medical bills PILE UP...
they continually get spurned by national and even local news outlets who stop covering the story or water down coverage significantly when they do cover it—typically toeing the EPA/state environmental department/corporate line that everything is "improving" and just dandy...
Making matters worse—and easier for the mainstream media to move on—is the presidential campaign season heating up with national outlets already fixating and speculating on the GOP 2024 horse race and whether Biden will or won't run (and if anyone will primary him). In 2016...
coverage of the #FlintWaterCrisis fell out of the news as media pivoted back to covering Trump's tweets 24/7—at a great disservice to Flint residents who were left to fend for themselves as then Gov. Rick Snyder's admin, with the help of a lazy media, executed a massive coverup..
The void left by mainstream media abandoning #EastPalestineOH has to be filled by INDEPENDENT MEDIA. As someone who has frustratingly tried to keep the ONGOING #FlintWaterCrisis in the news for 6 years, this won't be easy. But @StatusCoup will continue to cover & investigate...
@StatusCoup this story when it is NO LONGER TRENDING and when it is no longer in the news. We will continue speaking with residents on and off camera to find out what's actually happening ON-THE-GROUND and distinguish between fact vs fiction...

🧵UPDATE: I just spoke with an East Palestine OH resident who’s house was deemed too toxic for her family to return to. “We are getting sicker and sicker. An entire community is being poisoned slowly in front of the nation.” #EastPalestineOH

….
Norfolk Southern has repeatedly offered her to pay for her relocation—AFTER she spoke out to national news. She told me her whole family is sick as are her neighbors throughout the town. Bronchitis, vomiting, nosebleeds, dizziness, splitting headaches to name a few symptoms…
When I asked her what she thought of national media like @nytimes and those outside of the town minimizing the catastrophe and attacking people equating the explosion to Chernobyl—she broke down in tears. “The news isn’t telling the truth…EVERYONE is sick. We need help now.”

🧵Unsurprisingly out-of-touch pundits are drooling over Biden's State of the Union. But here's a short list of promises he ran on that he not only hasn't delivered on but quickly abandoned, hasn't fought for, or didn't fight to extend.
Despite Resistance ghouls quick 2 make excuses for @JoeBiden, Biden could've put $15 min wage into original CARES Act reconciliation package. Parliamentarian isn't an elected official & her opinion is advisory. Trump fired his. At this point, $15 min wage is conservative position
@JoeBiden Bernie/The Squad should've held out their votes unless $15 min included. Biden also ran on public option-not ideal policy but an upgrade to current disastrous healthcare system. As soon as he entered office, he eliminated public option from his vocabulary...during deadly pandemic

THREAD: After 30 years of gaslighting by politicians and media, people are finally realizing the U.S. economy is not "strong" or "thriving" based on artificial #s like unemployment or GDP—no matter the pom poms from @JoeBiden. The U.S. economy is actually a massive bank robbery
@JoeBiden That's why despite @JoeBiden & Dems trying to sell 💩as gold—an infrastructure deal that's privatization on steroids & an inflation reduction act that trims around the edges—Biden is polling so badly. The fed min wage is still an unconscionable $7.25 as costs for everything soar
@JoeBiden Even before the inflation of the last 2 years, Democrats (and Republicans) have allowed their donors--real estate developers, Wall Street, and gentrifiers—ravage the rental and housing market, leaving Americans to spend 30% on rent

It's clear the Twitter circus Elon Musk is creating is meant to juice up the user base-kind of like train wreck TV hooking people to keep coming back for more mess. So he's creating chaos to enrage liberals while luring the right to get their popcorn mediaite.com/tech/elon-musk…
It will work for short term media coverage of Twitter, but it will eventually lure enough advertisers away that Musk will see no choice but to start shifting Twitter to a subscription service where everyone pays a monthly/annual fee--which will ultimately tank the business.
Hate to say I told you so, but I said from the early will-he-won't-he buy Twitter period that an oligarch who got rich off of corporate welfare, exploiting workers, and union busting doesn't give a damn about free speech. Like most oligarchs, he will prop up speech he likes...
