Hey #Indiana, on last week's #HoosLeft podcast, I wrestled with whether or not the Democratic Party is the best route for progressive change.
I decided that, imperfections and all, the nature of our system yields two parties. If we want to change that, we need to use the infrastructure already in place to gain the power do so.
The authoritarian far-right are way too close to realizing all their goals and I fear the hour is too late to try and build something altogether new.
With that in mind, I spoke with a couple local officials about their journeys into public service. Jocelyn Vare @VareForFishers tells me how she became involved electoral politics. Warning: her enthusiasm is contagious. jocelynvareforfishers.com
I also spoke with my dear childhood friend Andie Jahnz-Davis, who now serves as vice chair for the Michigan City Sustainability Commission. She illustrates a non-electoral route to serving your community. emichigancity.com/1214/Sustainab…

@Thom_Hartmann always says "Democracy is not a spectator sport" and ends every show with, "Tag, You're IT". It's absolutely true. We all know something is deeply wrong with politics and only with each of us doing whatever we can, however big or small, can we save ourselves.
#HB 1608 passed in the House last Thursday and will move onto the Senate this week. This disgraceful bill stigmatizes trans kids, as if they weren't struggling enough already.
#Hoosier#Republicans, already using state funds to subsidize religious education and already-wealthy private school parents, have now seen fit to single out the 0.006% of kids that identify as trans.
My good friend @LinearRadio joins me as we zoom out from #Indiana to look at the current moment of crisis, rising authoritarianism, and how we got here.

Not to be a bummer, but the National Football League is a pretty horrific organization. You might not notice if you're only watching on Sundays, but if you look between the headlines, you'll find a multi-billion dollar empire built on exploitation.
Like the #MagicEye puzzles of the 90's, the underlying suffering is invisible unless seen from the right angle.
