The main problem of Switzerland: besides YB and Basel, no team could gather enough coefficient points to be seeded in the most crucial qualifying rounds.
Still, things do not look so bad for next season. Basel qualifying will be crucial once again. Current prediction:
YB: UCL Group Stage (Pot 4)
FCSG: EL Group Stage (Pot 4)
Servette: UECL Group Stage (Pot 4)
Basel: UECL Group Stage (Pot 1)
Lugano: Out in QF
This would be epic!
The fate of Servette is on razors edge due to their low coefficient, but they are now predicted to make it to #UECL if the finish 2nd in the league, which would be awesome!
Serbia is only ranked 28. Čukarički (SRB) has 5.500 points.
This is the most glaring gap between the top 2 and the rest from any top 15 nation by far. Serbia is currently ranked 11th in the UEFA country ranking due to FK Crvena zvezda and FK Partizan.
But that 17th spot of Switzerland with FCZ isn't good at all, either. Especially now that we can send 5 teams to international glory, 2 teams performing well aren't enough.
Turkey has so many teams with a decent coefficient, and this season, it really pays off.
Even their 6th team has the better coefficient than the 3rd team of Switzerland. This is very telling.
YB struggling a bit lately, but the margin is still massive.
Development of the predictions is quite steady over the season. Basel and FCZ got a bit of a downgrade compared to the beginning of the season, but they seem to catch up a bit now.
Time to go back in time. This thread shows the football teams who collected the most points for the UEFA country ranking since season 1955/56, in the last 67 years (!)
First the overall ranking, then I'll provide the stats for the big nations 👇👇👇
OVERALL RANKING
Real Madrid has clearly been the most successful football club in the last 67 years.
Over 150 points collected overall, this is insane.
Bayern and Benfica complete the podium. Also in top 10: Manchester United, Barca, Juventus, Ajax, Porto, Milan, Dynamo Kyiv
1. 🇪🇸ESP: 469 points
Spain has clearly been the most successful football nation in the last 67 years.
Shining beacon is Real Madrid, but FC Barcelona and Atlético Madrid did also contribute their fair share.
I'm also not a big fan of positioning players near the goal posts.
It's classic loss aversion bias. Yes, there are instances where a goal can be prevented that way, but I feel the loss of possible gain is way bigger, since the players are missing elsewhere.
And don't even get me started on this.
Sacrificing a player just to prevent the very unlikely scenario that a free kick goal is scored below the defensive wall is ridiculous.
Imagine what this player can do instead. Like being ready for a counter attack.
