#FILED: We are bringing the first-ever lawsuit on behalf of women denied abortions since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.

We are seeking to rightfully return life-and-death medical decisions to patients and their doctors.

In Zurawski v. State of Texas, five Texans with severe pregnancy complications and two obstetrician-gynecologists are suing Texas over its abortion bans. The case seeks clarity on when doctors and patients can access abortion under the state's exception for "medical emergencies".
Abortion is an essential part of lifesaving reproductive health care that is now currently illegal—or nearly completely banned—in Texas and 12 other states, and heavily restricted in many others.
These extreme state laws are intentionally creating chaos and confusion for pregnant people and the doctors and hospitals that treat them by criminalizing the provision of an abortion—a necessary and lifesaving procedure crucial in treating dangerous medical conditions.
Texas doctors have been turning patients away as they face up to 99 years in prison, at least $100,000 in fines, and loss of their medical licenses for violating abortion bans. Pregnant people are being forced to wait until they are near death to receive care or flee the state.
"No one should be forced to wait until they are at death’s door to receive health care," said Nancy Northup, President and CEO of the Center for Reproductive Rights.
Zurawski v. State of Texas seeks to rightfully return life-and-death medical decisions to patients and their doctors, and not leave them up to politicians and state officials. Learn more about this case: reproductiverights.org/texas-lawsuit-…

Sunday marked 100 days since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, a devastating decision that has left millions struggling to access essential abortion care.

We’ve broken down the repercussions of this decision over the last 100 days, by the numbers. 🧵⬇️
People across the U.S. seeking abortions are being forced to cross state lines, traveling hundreds of miles to access essential care.

Consequently, clinics in states where abortion is legal have become inundated with out-of-state patients.
We continue to #ActForAbortionAccess in support of #WHPA and the EACH Act. These two bills are critical to ensure that people can get the health care they need and MUST be passed by Congress. 📣

#BREAKING: Abortion is now banned in North Carolina after the 20th week of pregnancy.

The ban has been blocked for over three years and was allowed to go into effect today by a federal judge who was completely unprompted. This decision is an egregious overstep by the court.
A joint statement from the Center, @PPFA, @PPSATNC, @ACLU, and @ACLU_NC:  “People will suffer from this dangerous ban. There is already confusion among providers over whether they can provide care, resulting in pregnant people being turned away in emergency situations...”
“North Carolinians will be forced to cross state lines to access life-saving abortion care while others in the region, who could have previously turned to North Carolina as a critical access point, will now have to travel even farther — if they have the means to do so.”

#BREAKING: The South Carolina Supreme Court has unanimously decided to block the state’s six-week abortion ban while litigation continues.

The ban took effect shortly after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and has caused irreparable harm for more than a month.
“Today’s decision is a huge relief for people who desperately need abortion care in South Carolina right now. Many have been panicking for far too long as they try to figure out where they can turn to for services, if at all...” —Genevieve Scott, Center Senior Counsel
“This unjust ban is incredibly dangerous and jeopardizes people’s health and wellbeing. People should not have to question if and how they can access the essential health care they need...” —Genevieve Scott, Center Senior Counsel

ICYMI: Yesterday the Biden-Harris administration issued a proposed rule implementing Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act, which would restore and strengthen vital nondiscrimination protections in health care. 👏

#BREAKING: We just filed a case in Georgia state court against the state’s 6-week abortion ban. Last week a federal appellate court allowed the extreme law to go into immediate effect, causing a devastating crisis as clinics were forced to turn away patients &cancel appointments.
Since #SCOTUS overturned Roe last month, a domino effect of bans has decimated abortion access in the south and across the U.S. A six-week abortion ban is particularly dangerous in Georgia, where the maternal mortality rate is alarmingly high, especially among Black Georgians.
Additionally, forced pregnancy can derail people's education, career and life plans, resulting in greater economic hardship for the pregnant person, their children, and their families. #AbortionIsEssential
