This #WomensHistoryMonth, let's celebrate the remarkable contributions of #WomenInScience! πŸ‘©β€πŸ”¬

Help us recognize their achievements by joining our #NameAFemaleScientist campaign.

πŸ‘‰ Follow us @GeneticSystems as we'll be featuring one #femalescientist each week in March.
#NameAFemaleScientist β€” Meet #MarthaChase with her groundbreaking work on DNA that challenged the prevailing theory at the time that proteins were genetic material.

Her work laid the foundation for further research into the role of DNA in inheritance and genetic disorders.
#NameAFemaleScientist β€” Did you know that the key to understanding the link between diet and heart disease was unlocked by a pioneering African-American biochemist named Marie Maynard Daly? Image
Her work on the role of cholesterol and diet in heart disease eventually led to the development of cholesterol-lowering drugs like #statins.

Let's take a moment to recognize Daly's legacy in the development of life-saving treatments for heart disease by sharing her story β€οΈπŸ”
#NameAFemaleScientist β€” At a time when less than 1% of India’s women were literate, Janaki Ammal – an Anglo-Indian botanist, went on to obtain a Ph.D. in Botany from one of the finest public universities @UMich.
From developing high-yield sugarcane varieties to advocating for the preservation of India's indigenous plants and flowers, Janaki's impact and influence are undeniably a testament to her perseverance and passion for both science and environmental conservation.
#NameAFemaleScientist β€” Meet Nettie Stevens, a pioneering American geneticist whose work paved the path for future discoveries related to the identification of hereditary diseases, the proper understanding of human and animal development, and the onset of forensic sciences.
Despite limited opportunities available to women in her time, Stevens worked her way through school to become a scientist, and her research led to groundbreaking discoveries in sex determination by chromosomes.
Nettie’s career span may have been short, but she was so incredibly accomplished and contributed more to her field than many scientists have with much longer careers, publishing nearly 40 papers among numerous other achievements.
