So much kefuffle around China and it’s alleged election interference, compromised democracy and PM Trudeau’s supposed insouciant attitude or, worse, his and his government’s compliance. It all sounds terribly frightening and in need of speedy investigation and correction. But 1/
I’m starting to feel like it’s rather more simple than most feel or understand., like: 1) China, Russia, USA and more - all interfere in Canada’s internal politics and have for many years. They e supported all parties from time to time and elected governments too. But despite 2/
…all their efforts and cash spent, the net interference in, disruption of, or actual real impact on Canada’s elections is - zero, none, zip, nada. And that doesn’t seem to be in dispute really by anyone. So, given that the ‘interference’ happens all day every day, 3/
…by multiple state actors, and that CSIS, RCMP & other law enforcement entities have been watching carefully, forever, and nothing egregious enough to warrant any criminal charges or expulsion of foreign diplomats has occurred, then whatever briefings took place would hardly 4/
…be anything more than, ‘Yeah it continues to happen, on a low level, no impact, CSIS & RCMP & Five Eyes have it well in hand.’ So, then it would make a lot of sense for 1) PM Trudeau to say publicly ‘I’ve never been briefed on any notable specifics’ because there weren’t 5/
…any notable specifics to brief and 2) it’s not the PM’s job to personally deep dive into the CSIS or RCMP weeds to personally investigate anything that’s pretty much nothingburger to begin with - he has agencies and ministers and prosecutors who do that, that’s what they do 6/
So is it any surprise that PM Trudeau would treat nothingburger like a nothingburger while he’s busy running the country through Covid and Trump and Ukraine and the provinces and - yes, China - and myriad other major issues? And is it any surprise that most Canadians wouldn’t 7/
…be able to wade through the coordinated bullshit of the @CPC_HQ campaign team and mainstream media’s steaming heaps piled up by Fife, Coyne and others desperate for click bait and relevance, and decide that no, this China thing is a nothingburger and no further energy or 8/
…attention should be paid. In fact, the pundits and editors and broadcasters and politicians who sparked this up and fanned the flames should sit down and shut the fuck up so the rest of Canada can get on with life as usual. And avoid more time and money on investigations 9/
…and commissions that won’t uncover anything untoward that’s not already well known in the right circles whose job it is to know. A tempest in a teapot if ever there was one IMHO 10/10 #cdnpoli#Trudeau#Poilievre#China#election#interference
Love it @PierrePoilievre has chosen this hill to die on, based on anonymous mewings of a disgruntled analyst who doesn’t know how everything works inside CSIS and the foreign service. Climb that hill PP, and plant your false flag!

Why does @PierrePoilievre@cpc_hq lead the torches & pitchforks mob, shrieking about China’s interference in Canada, while silent on, and denying any investigation into, US and Russian interference which likely exceeds anything China’s doing? Look at who the players are… 1/
China, the godless peril, is and has been, number one demon to be feared and destroyed by evangelical right-wing fundamentalist Christian sects. Communist China represents in every way, what those sects hate and fear. No wonder then, that political parties 2/
…politically and ideologically aligned with Christianity find common cause using China as the fulcrum of fear-mongering and rage-farming.
Contrast, then, the attitude of those same Christian sect-infested parties like @CPC_HQ@gop to Russia 3/
There is a while lot more to the #RebelOffensive than we’ve seen or heard in media. Obviously this offensive was long in the planning, organizing, recruiting, financing and mobilization. The rebel core wasn’t evident at first as it cloaked itself in anti-mandate messages /1
Obviously there was intelligence gathering by authorities prior to the mobilization and occupation but, just as politics interfered w proper application of police and National Guard on Jan6th, some municipalities failed to acknowledge the breadth, depth and weight of the /2
#RebelOffensive then Conservative provincial premiers, following the line of CPC leadership and rank & file, allowed the occupation to grow hoping it would end up around the neck of PM Trudeau. Finally, when public opinion caught up with the size & scope of the offensive 3/
