Green Hills Software claims to have hundreds of millions of vehicles using their automotive platform.
I estimate that at least 35,846 people die every year using Green Hills Software’s platform for automotive. My calculations are shared below.
Let’s assume “hundreds of millions of cars” means at least 200 million cars, each traveling an average of 13,476 miles a year. That’s 2.695 trillion vehicle miles per year.
Given 1.33 fatalities per 100 million miles traveled, you get 35,846 annual fatalities.
Now, is it Green Hills Software’s fault that people are dying in their cars in droves day after day?
I mean, all cars crash. But why did they not do more to stop it? Bring technologies like Autopilot & active safety to market more aggressively? Make stuff updatable OTA?
For the millionth time, it’s not “YouTube influencers”. It is called the Early Access Program. People in the Early Access Program help validate software & send feedback before wide release
Most do not have a social media presence at all. A few do so you think it’s “influencers”
When I got into the early access program, I had no followers
We spend atime making these videos for you people. The software can’t be rolled out to everyone all at once for safety reasons. That is not my fault or Tesla’s fault.
If a bad issue gets pushed out to hundreds of thousands of people then the whole program runs into issues and nobody gets any updates anymore
NHTSA announced Monday that it is investigating how Zoox self-certified its Robotaxi with no manual controls as having met federal requirements to travel on public roads
The audit query is a type of administrative investigation used by the agency to determine whether a company has complied with its legal obligation, according to NHTSA.
“Zoox certified in June 2022 that its robotaxi met all applicable federal safety standards. In September, NHTSA ordered Zoox to answer certain questions about its basis for certifying the vehicle. Zoox responded to the agency's order in November, according to a NHTSA document”
Some states, such as Virginia, are proposing language that would prevent traditional autoamkers from negotiating the sale or lease of a new vehicle with a consumer directly, or declaring dealers to be just delivery agents.
Other states want to spell out dealers role in participating in future subscription revenue that automakers may seek to activate with over the air software updates.
