So, here’s a 🧵 on just how fucked Australia’s media are ATM.

A. First, a disclaimer.

You don’t have to believe @AlboMP is either a hero or a villain on this issue to understand it.

Life is complex & politics is even more complex.
B. But here’s the thing: the media claiming today they’re innocent victims in the Paul Keating issue and therefore claiming they’re being “attacked” unfairly is the greatest fucking hypocrisy in the known universe.

And we’re going to explain why.
C. Most of Twitter (and by all accounts, most of Australia) doesn’t agree that 368 or so billion dollars is a good use of money to buy 8 submarines which are already virtually obsolete; which won’t be ready for 20 years; & which can protect 100 or so miles of our coastline.
D. Therefore (unless we’re missing something significant) the reasons Labor are going ahead with the purchase appear to be 1 or more of the following 4 reasons:

1. They believe Australia needs to continue to suck up to the US &/or the UK for ongoing defence reasons;
D. 2. Although somewhat more progressive than the LNP, Labor are still basically neoliberal shills who get huge donations from the industrial-military complex whom they can’t afford to upset;

3. Despite winning the 2022 election, Labor are still scarred by their …
E. … shock 2019 election loss (largely caused by our bastard #NewsCorpse media who fully exploited & destroyed the progressive agenda outlined by Shorten) so all their decisions now are still dictated by refusing to openly back-track on all the fuck-ups instigated by the LNP;
F. &/or

4. Albo’s government is still dominated by advisers, staffers & committees who were appointed by the LNP so are still giving ridiculous, outdated & dangerous advice to Ministers & others.

We believe all 4 of these reasons (plus maybe other considerations) have merit.
G. But in our witchy opinion, the 3rd reason given is (by far) the most important and relevant here.

That is: our current Australian federal Labor government are partly or largely hamstrung in their decisions by the fear that making big changes in policy or moving too fast …
H. … to dismantle the LNP’s bastardry will backfire on them in a media environment hugely dominated by Murdoch, Costello and Stokes, who are all doing their absolute best to destroy the current government at the next election.

We know we’ll be called Labor shills for this.
I. But a look at our timeline will show that’s the last thing we are: we regularly criticise the new-ish Labor government for their lack of adequate action on social security, #COVID19, refugee policy, housing policy, monetary policy & other issues.

They should be doing more.
J. However, unlike many other tweeps, we can see (because life is complex & the perfect is still, for so many, the enemy of the good) that even though the Labor government’s action on many issues is sub-standard, the spectre of Rupert Murdoch over their heads is intense, & real.
K. Most of Twitter behaves as if it isn’t just 20% or so of the Aussie population on this hellsite.

Therefore, most fail to realise there’s a huge number of readers/watchers/listeners of NewsCorp’s, Sky News’s, Channel 9’s & Channel 7’s bullshit pumped to millions every day.
L. Or that all those orgs (all led by corrupt billionaires & multi-millionaires) are just WAITING for Albo to “go too far” with his “woke” policies, so they can get the momentum they need to go rabidly on the attack.

THIS IS LITERALLY HOW THEY HAVE WON MANY PAST ELECTIONS.
M. And THIS is why the cry-baby whining by various so-called journalists today is so fucking hypocritical.

These people literally write for the corrupt wealthy men who are holding the government to ransom by threatening to destroy them if they move too progressively.
N. They are LITERALLY the reason Paul Keating has to be the only one to blow the whistle on the government: because they’re so busy doing their evil bosses’ bidding they don’t question or doubt the obscene military expenditure.

Then when Keating does what they should be doing …
O. … they not only attempt to take him apart for DOING THEIR JOBS, but then cry victim when called out for it.

& if they don’t personally say much, their silence still indicates their protection of their media mates.

LOL. FFS: these people are absolute fucking scum.
P. They know themselves that their repeated warmongering & support for unconscionable expenditure is wrong, but they’ll support it to the death because their rich bosses want to prop up their rich mates who’ll make money from these murderous war machines.
Q. It’s possible to simultaneously believe that the current Labor government isn’t fixing big problems quickly enough AND to know that if Labor move much faster before they’ve won another election it’s possible they won’t even fucking win the next fucking election.
R. Maybe Australia DOES need to maintain good relations with the US & the UK.

Maybe China DOES pose a threat to Australia.

And maybe there ARE reasons to move carefully & strategically on all defence issues.

As we said earlier, these matters are difficult.
S. But the journos who beat the drums of war & anger China constantly in their reporting, threaten the federal govt’s decisions with media hell every fucking day but then ALSO seek to destroy the 1 man who asks them to consider their own role in the carnage are deadshits.

Ends.

“I’ve been attacked by Hartcher, that psychopath … who has this great stentorian voice, but no stentorian mind to match it”.

Keating’s still got it, LOL.

“Contextualisation of an issue may not be your strong suit.”

Keating to Andrew Probyn at the #NPC today, LOL.

Paul Keating to Olivia Caisley of Sky News at the #NPC:

“I know you’re just trying to ask a question, but the question is so dumb it’s hardly worth an answer.”

Short 🧵.

A. As @RonniSalt first reported last night, @SenatorHume’s outrageous attack on @Mon4Kooyong via Rupert’s #NewsCorpse stooges for not attending Parliamentary Divisions several days ago is a clear indication Murdoch intends to help Frydenberg win back the seat.
B. The piece (part-written by Simon Benson’s mate Geoff Chambers, who together hid evidence of Morrison’s multiple ministries last year to better spruik their book) is just 1 in a deluge of recent pieces going after Dr. Ryan & other so-called “Teal” candidates & parliamentarians.
C. Not only was the piece unbelievably insensitive given Dr. Ryan left the House because of the sudden death of a close family member (pic via @RonniSalt), but other news came to light last night revealing Jane Hume herself missed a majority of Parliamentary Divisions last week.

Memo for Lisa Millar and the @abcnews Breakfast team (who can no longer be tagged via their own program).

Maternity leave is just ONE small reason women normally retire with much lower Super balances than men do.

There are many sexist, unfair reasons, including:

1/-
A. Women typically earn less from their very first job, because of innate discrimination in company hiring practices;

B. Female-dominated careers have lower overall wages than male-dominated careers (think early childhood education workers vs. the mining industry);

2/-
C. Because female-dominated careers pay less, women in them tend to have greater breaks from the workplace as they’re forced to change jobs more often;

D. Women who push for pay rises during their careers are seen as bossy and unliveable, while men are seen as ambitious;

Here’s a short 🧵, witches, about Australia’s bastard supermarkets.

All Australia’s big supermarket chains advertise with #NewsCorpse.

But @Coles & @woolworths advertise with Murdoch far more than @igaAustralia & @ALDIAustralia.

If you can, please boycott the first 2.

1/10 Image
To emphasise this first: IF YOU CAN’T BOYCOTT ANY ORGANISATION BECAUSE OF DISABILITY, MOBILITY ISSUES OR FOR ANY OTHER REASON, PLEASE DON’T FEEL GUILTY.

The 10%-20% of people who CAN’T boycott a company don’t matter: what matters is the 80% who can do so if they try.

2/10
Coles & Woolworths are 2 of around 20 big companies who together fund more than 50% of Murdoch’s operations here.

That’s one reason boycotting them is so important.

But apart from that, both these Big 2 chains are now engaging in price gouging during a terrible time …

Yesterday, we did a 🧵 on one of the biggest distortions of truth in the #NewsCorpse hit piece on @BrittHiggins_ yesterday.

Today, we’re going to do another thread.

Strap in.

1/13
We’re going to address the statements and implications in the piece (2 are included below, but there are more) that because Brittany initially:

- behaved as if she were embarrassed;

- said she wasn’t going to make a complaint to police;

- sent Reynolds flowers; and

2/13
- didn’t initially refer to what happened to her as a rape;

that it would suggest she was lying about what happened.

This kind of shit happens to women all the fucking time and it’s disgusting.

For the record, women who’ve been raped are in a trauma crisis.

There’s a lot we could say about the @AusFedPolice leak about @BrittHiggins_ in #NewsCorpse’s @australian rag out today.

But for now, we’ll limit ourselves to addressing just one issue.

So here’s a 🧵.

1/-
We want to address the implication that Brittany is somehow complicit with Labor or some sections of the media by meeting with prominent Australians during the furore over her alleged rape.

It may surprise people to learn that when a person or group is in the news …

2/-
… they often talk to or take opinions from other people, esp. people who’ve been through similar public issues.

When we were in the middle of the Alan Jones campaign, for eg, we constantly spoke to many people and groups.

Some of them would be very surprising to many.
