Government has decided to implement the Metro Rail project in Coimbatore city.

The Metro Rail project will be implemented along Avinashi Road and Sathyamangalam Road at an estimated cost of Rs.9,000 crore.

Thread: Tamil Nadu finance minister P Thiagarajan presented the state budget for 2022-23.

Here are the important pointers from the budget:

- TN poised to see a significant reduction of the Fiscal Deficit, from 4.61% down to 3.80%.
This year, Tamil Nadu will see a reduction in the Revenue Deficit by over Rs.7,000 crore, reversing an alarming trend of increasing deficits every year since 2014, says FM P Thiagarajan.
- A special social media cell will be created within the police dept to prevent increasing crimes resulting out of fake news.

- Rs 10,285 crore allocated for police dept.

- Rs 10 crore allocated for improving weather forecast systems in the state.

Thread on White Paper released by Tamil Nadu finance minister P Thiagarajan:

- Revenue deficit of TN has been deteriorating for the last 8 years. Such a long term trend has affected the development investments.

Revenue deficit : 3.16 as % of GSDP for FY 2020-21.
Fiscal deficit of the state has been primarily increasing due to increase in govt borrowing.

Fiscal deficit is 4.43 as % of GSDP.

The public debt is Rs 2,63,976 per family in TN.

Public debt as % of GSDP is 26.69%, which is above the allowed limit of 25%.
Outstanding debt of GoTN has been metioned as Rs 4,85,503 crores until now. However, if we consider "other means" of financing the fiscal deficit the real debt is Rs 5,24,574 crores.
